Which levers? The RS-685 on the Domane frayed, but that was at ~8000 miles. I don't think that any are as bad as the x700-series.
They are 685s. A quick look suggests others have had this problem and half of them are unaware you can easily remove the bottom of the lever body to retrieve a broken end and are resorting to dental picks and other laborious methods.

If you have it, you might as well, but the main concern to me was the FD cable contacting the side of the hole where it exited the back/top of the BB area.
I had a few scraps, but didn't use them. I'll put some fresh stuff on when I redo them. I did slip a piece on the FD cable with that in mind, but I don't think it actually contacts the edge.
