Today I did a 15:00 field test. Have a number I've always seen as a benchmark and achievable based on shorter efforts at that wattage, but never actually done it. Tried in March, blew up less than 7:00 in. Tried again the next day and missed by a full 20w. Got it done today. Insane how much training milestones sometimes mean to me. As much as races, as strange as it sounds.
While warming up, I set out to do a 4:00 opener on my way to the destination climb where I intended to go for it. I did it at the benchmark number to see if it was even worth trying for the full effort, and I felt so good I just kept going for the full 15:00. Ultimately, I actually beat the benchmark by 18w and my March result by 38. Beyond thrilled. Also, too sore, from that single effort, to even sleep.
