I am very familiar with both REI and Dicks.
They are in different leagues, IMO.
Yes they sell a lot of the same type of stuff, but REI has much better stuff in my experience. Better bike stuff, better camping stuff, better hiking stuff.
I think REI is actually a pretty fantastic store.
