My road frame size is 64cm. I have currently have two, one is CroMo the other is Reynolds 531. The 531 is an old Dawes Galaxy and is plenty stiff. Back before they went with the sloping top tube frames 64cm wasn't an uncommon size, now you get typically get S, M, L some manufactures may make XS and XL. FWIW I ride XL and my bride rides XS, so we get the short end of the stick with the S-L sizing. For technical MTB riding I use the 21" frame for better clearance, I wanted the 23" for touring.
