I use latex tubes but my spare is always butyl. The one step where I am very careful installing latex tubes is verifying that the entire tube is properly mounted inside the tire. After installation, I add 15-20 psi and then go around the tire checking the seating visually. Sometimes albeit rare, I will pinch the latex tube between the rim and tire bead. That is and explosion waiting to happen if not immediately at higher pressure. I don't feel like dealing with that step on the road. Personally, I find latex less susceptible to flat tires. They definitely roll much faster than butyl tubes tires.
