I think when I rehabbed a couple Retrofrictions I used a small socket and a hammer to gently tap out the bushing, and then was able to get the spring out. Getting it completely apart, cleaned, lightly greased and back together might help. But I also wonder if it could actually be the clamp? Like maybe it's developing a crack somewhere and slightly loosening up so it's 'creaking' against the downtube... (hopefully not!)
