My Grandfather and two of my Great grandfathers were Osteopaths. The Grandfather uses to say that Chiropractors quit after the first 6 weeks of Osteopathy School.
Mind you, I saw GGF's business card, from the late 19th Century, and the wonders of Osteopathy it extolled had a distinct "Snake Oil" feeling. And his name - Wiley J. Banning - didn't exactly inspire trust, either. But somehow, Osteopathy managed to get in under the modern medicine tent and now as I understand the training and licensing of DO's is similar enough to MDs that they're accepted.
My kids’ pediatrician is a DO- I think she’s great. I’ve never been able to tell the difference between an MD and DO when getting treatment
