sounds silly but I bought a Nishiki mountain bike for the tires. I needed knobly tires for a Kuwahara Shasta that cane with slicks and it was much cheaper to get a whole $10 bike than buying 2 new tires.
The rest of the story is that a few months later someone was looking to trade a road bike their neighbour had given them, for an equivalent age mountain bike. They had no interest for that skinny bike with the annoying toe clips so I was happy to help. A good overhaul and nice clean of the mountain bike (i ended up buying new tires to make it a fair trade) and a good old 1987 Vitus Futural all equiped with Zeus parts came my way.
