Ugh, I'm currently fighting a battle about how to carry bikes up there. Everyone else wants to use a hitch mount, top tube clamping rack on my mother's Buick. I'd rather use my truck and strap things down in the bed. Problem is that the Buick would be very comfortable, my truck is loud, bumpy, and not great for long trips.
My MTB has a drastically sloping top tube and my wife's bike is a mixte with double top tubes so I'm not terribly confident on the attachment mechanism for the hitch mount rack. And my Trek is fendered and has had a
lot of work done to it - it would be absolutely heartbreaking if it got damaged in any way.
It's about a 5 hour drive one-way. Maybe I'm being paranoid.
