Another endorsement for the Faveros. I've been riding them for a year and sometimes swap them between bikes. Really good product. The other advantage of pedal-based PMs is that if you get a new bike or new crankset in a few years, you can just move them over, no problem. GPlama has a hack to convert Faveros to SPD using Xpedo pedals:
