I was worried about this when behind the guy that bam is talking about. As the new guy, visiting from out of town, I was afraid that they'd think that I was the problem. During a break, I overheard a nearby cluster of riders talking and one said, "I think we need to tell Paul to ride on the back..." I jumped in, expressing my both my relief and my frustration.
