Out and back, I started at the Piney Chapel trailhead which is about 2 miles north of Athens. There is a small parking lot at the Veto, AL end too, so you could easily start there also.
I found this video to be a pretty accurate review of the trail, despite some complaints you may see in written reviews about the trail.
