One thing is to be sure they aren't too tight. I like Garneau gloves but not too thick or too much padding. When I ride my Chorus equipped bike I rarely get hand pain but on the Ultegra bike my left thumb gets sore and hurts for days sometimes. I think it's from torquing on the hoods which are bigger with Ultegra.
I think the main thing is to maintain a light touch on the bars when you can and keep your elbows relaxed.
thats one of the things we have been discussing. It appears that I have been holding my bars “wrong”. Gripping the bottom of the hoods and putting all the pressure on my palms. I also seem to put more weight on my left hand. When I start out and I am not tired I focus on my form, but as I get tired it starts to slip.
