Vain, But Lacking Talent
I was poking around YouTube, catching up on my various channels that I haven't had a chance to watch in the last couple months, and saw the GCN vid on how long a novice, an enthusiast and a pro could each hold 440w (Wiggin's average power during his hour record). The novice, although a big guy, couldn't manage one minute. Ollie, as the enthusiast, managed a little under 4 minutes - not bad. Watching their pro in disguise was humbling - 46 friggin' minutes. Yow.
Looking at my current numbers, I think I *might* be able to squeeze out 4 minutes if I'm motivated. I guess I could set it up on the wahoo app and give it a go?
EDIT: Yeah, probably not. I'd be lucky to get 2 minutes or more.

In my case, the guess would probably be wrong.

Some Tidewater and Down East accents do sound distinctly British and reflect emigration from different regions.

This is actually something I think about often, especially watching historical movies or listening to audio books. I recently listened to a superb audio version of Martin Chuzzlewit, read by a British person who did 19th century American accents that sounded exactly as I would imagine them. If you know the book, you remember what comically horrible characters the owners of those accents were and it was just perfect.

I've never measured and honestly don't know what 440w is.
I can't imagine I'd last very long though; I have a four-cylinder motor.

Dunno. Probably 2:00 - 3:30. I guess I'm used to aiming the other way around - what's the most that I can sustain for X duration, as opposed to how long I can maintain X output. Anyway, my 1 min is around 550 and my 5 minute is around 350. In general, anything between a 1 min effort and FTP is really hard for me to gauge/pace, so I'd probably have horrible results the first couple times around.

We had a fun mid-week ride, but only 7 riders. It was sprinkly at the start, we should have had an 8th but the guy said he did not want to ride in the rain.
The sprinkles stopped after 10 minutes and many of the roads were dry within an hour, although everyone's bike is coated with road gunk.
Of course MY bike does not have gunk, it has a patina.
That's my story and I am sticking to it.

Very!
I wouldn’t know
I wouldn’t go that far while there are luthiers that can make a living with it and have a two year waiting list, but, thanks!

One of my cyclist friends (who I have known since college but we met cycling and not at school) has a sailboat and said he has plans to sail from Baltimore to Gran Canaria and ride his bike there. He is not the most reliable guy in the world so I am guessing only 20% chance it happens. Still, it could be an interesting story/adventure.
