Joe, yes! I thought the same! Good to know that there's some other riders around. Do you ever ride Chuck's Velo Retro ride from Pasadena?

GPS, classic and vintage shouldn't even be in the same sentence, let alone on the same bike. (Says someone who sailed the Atlantic, making the final course change based on running sun sights using a sextant.)
None of my bikes claim to be classic but none have GPS and won't.

So I was thinking of some theme for my contributions to the group's route list. I'm a great believer in the Rails to Trails effort and have ridden a few. I'd like to highlight the bits that I know that I would recommend to all. How can I contribute these routes?

I'm in! Will have to see how the group works and what rides upload to our shared space. Haven't been tracking rides lately, but that'll probably change once summer hits.

As I understand from the RwGPS help documentation you have to be an administrator to upload routes? I'd put some stuff there now just to keep the ball rolling but I don't see a way to connect it to the group. Here's one to contribute https://ridewithgps.com/routes/13553064 and postcard

I signed up to RidewithGPS and Tapiriik and connected it with Strava that I already use. All of my Strava rides for the year were uploaded to RidewithGPS.

Okay, I have given all members 'admin' status. Just for laughs, someone should try to change my status from 'admin' to 'member,' or see if you can remove me entirely. I'm curious if you can do it.
I'll check in periodically to make sure all new members become admins.
I have added a route, "Mastoris Century" which is the route a bunch of us C&V people did last fall.
I have also added a route, "Shirley-Shelter Island Loop," which is similar to a loop a different bunch of C&V people did a few years ago. Since this is a public group, I have made the LIRR rail station at Mastic-Shirley (pronounced "Nasty Shirley") the start and end point of that ride. I summer near there, and would be happy to ride this loop with another group of C&V people some time this summer. Anyone who's interested in doing that, you might let me know; planning will be done off-list.
I would suggest the routes we add to the group, should be routes we (that is, some number of us) are planning to ride together, or have ridden together, or... you know, something like that.

Thanks rhm, you have the keys to unlock the door..
OK, I successfully added my route to the group - very cool. In randonneuring circles we have permanent routes with "owners" who are local to the route and are responsible for facilitating a request to ride the route (for credit, of course, because anyone can ride it). So my suggestion would be that we can "advertise" a route because we have ridden it and recommend it and then future rides can be planned on-line, and past rides can be shared. So, in the future, a route "owner" can advertise routes in his/her area that are convenient or they are willing to facilitate.
As far as routes shared previously by C&V members, I can only offer up the CA L'Eroica or maybe Chuck Schmidt's Velo-Retro monthly Rose Bowl ride. Just some thoughts on the ground rules....

Rudi, how do you add a route that you haven't recorded live with the app?

Unfortunately, time constraints have had me only riding before dark lately (and with my dynamo hub waiting to be built into a new wheel, that means riding on Zwift only). So anyone looking for routes in Kentucky will only see a single, nonmoving dot.

I have a question about segments on ridewithgps. Every so often, the app will deem it appropriate to notify me of my rank on a particular segment. It makes me feel good that I made it to the noteworthy ranks, but how do they do this? On a nice fun climb I did on Saturday, the app saw fit to tell me I ranked #8 among 12. Does that mean the 13th and lower ranks did so much worse that their records are not worth looking at? Or does it mean that only 12 people have done this segment while using the ridewithgps app? If the latter, does that still mean I did well on the climb?

Death fork? Naaaah!!
I worked so hard at land nav and became so good at it that I have a pathological hatred for GPS boxes of any kind.
