Well the first ride on the 1030 was a very quick 10 miler to check it out. The only issue I had and it was not the fault of the 1030 but the inerrant read from my garmin HRM on my watch sending to my Edge. Once I got 3 miles into the ride it came back to a normal what I know HR for my usual ride.

I bought electrode gel for $3 and it's a lifetime supply. Works great, much better than spit in my case. Some people probably have better spit for the purpose than I do.
I found that using a little bit is best, seemed to cause problems if I really got sweating

Did I read that right? They cut the internal memory in half and called it "Plus"?
(No wonder I can't buy a jersey by size!)

I could be wrong but my 1030 came with 16 anyways before the change. You can upgrade with the card up to 32 more. I don't even think I can come close to using the 16 lol.
I didn't know there was a 1030 plus?

So far there isn't a 1030 plus in the US market. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/cInt...ycling-p1.html

You're right. I got caught up looking for familiar-looking German words and mixed up the two columns. Wonder, though, if the 1030+ will have a micro chip slot like the 1030?

I think that will not go away. Serious touring folks I bet rely on that chip slot. I don't know where I would ever need that much but if I were going on very long journey or something I would want that chip. Reason being lets say your head unit dies, you can get a new one, put in the chip on the road and be back going......so yeah I see it could be super nice.

It's a shame they're not increasing screen resolution and shrinking the bezels. I realize neither is friendly to battery life, but more detail on the maps and for the weather radar app would improve the experience of using it. The Fenix line just increased pixel count and battery life, the added resolution allowed the UI to be more refined and in the end it's a joy to use compared to the previous model.

When I ran the most recent update I noticed I had used up about 50% of internal memory on my 1030. I've got maybe 20 routes on it and I might need 3. or 4. I've never needed the SD card. It's so simple using iQ to get routes from RWGPS via cell data on a phone that it kind of eliminates the need for an SD.

The most recent maps are about 8 gb. That's an issue for devices that have 8 gb internal.
8 gb free should be enough for additional maps (if not quite a whole continent) and many, many routes and activities.
The number (many hundreds) of routes and activities is much larger than what would be reasonably manageable.
There may be a limit to the number (like, 200) of routes the devices can deal with. I don't think the devices were ever intended to permanent storage for all of one's routes and activities.
16 gb is enough (except in rare cases). 32 gb is even more enough.
The point of the SD card is primarily to be able to quickly swap in another map.
It's not needed for routes and activities.
It's possible that it's cheaper providing 32 gb than 16. It might be cheaper to provide 32 gb than to provide the support for the card (which is not that necessary and less necessary still with 32 gb).

Shrinking the bezels could be done by increasing the screen size but, maybe, not enough.

That, of course, could mean there will be a new 130 model too.
Yup, there's a 130 Plus too.

A quick glance is showing it at assorted sites reduced to $480, which BTD has it at. That's not by any means a "blow out" (IMO), as it had been reduced last winter to $400 or so. If I were in the market and time was not an issue, I would wait.

I received the same email and, in addition to the 1030 plus, it was also promoting the 130 plus. I looked at the web page after clicking on the link in the email early this am, but the link does not work now.

You can pre-order it (expected 7/4). $600.
