He didn't grow up there, either. We grew up just about where the rolling hills give way to the foothills of the Appalachians. A little west of hardcore Pennsylvania Dutch country, but we did have a few Amish, and a lot of Mennonites. And so, a lot of pickles.

I wish to reaffirm my DISlike of bib shorts. I recently bought a pair because the lower half of our club cycling costume comes only in bibular form. I was soon reminded of how hard it is to pee out of them and how clammy they get on the belly after working up a sweat.

Sacrilege!
Actually, I am neutral and am fine with either bibs OR shorts.

NOT BIBS tend to blockade most of the back sweat at the waistband.

Unfortunately I noticed that too this year, and worse it can lead to chaffing in uncomfortable to mention places. Didn't think about it in the context of bibs/not bibs.

Of course, jokes aside, I don't know why I'd care what anyone else wears.

To reassure you that you made the right choice, of course!

During my airport appreciation time I came across this hat. I was interested, I am a big time hat wearer, but 32 dollars seemed a touch steep.

Funny you should say that, because I was just mentioning to my wife that, having weighed less than 220lbs the last 5 days in a row, I am now officially "Overweight", rather than "Obese". I suggested we get a cake to celebrate.....
Funny thing is, the BMI folks think that at my height, "Overweight" starts at 185. I can't imagine myself at 185. I also can't imagine how I'd get there.

I am not fond of beets, but will eat them with enough adulteration. The version of borscht I grew up with was beef stew with a few beets in it and was, therefore, edible. I like the pickled beets, along with the other pickled stuff, in Mediterranean salads, especially with good hummus and olive oil. I will also eat beets in salads with goat cheese and roasted walnuts etc.
Grate the beets and lightly sauté them, let it cool and mix with strained yogurt (almost 1:1). add in minced garlic (3-4 cloves), stir and serve.
Replace the beets with raw grated celeriac for my second favorite and replace the beets with raw purslane for my absolute favorite meze. For the celeriac and purslane versions of it, serve with a drizzle of olive oil on top after final mixing.
Celeriac and especially the purslane version goes unbelievably well with fresh grilled fish and raki/ouzo.
