I was in Lexington VA scouting out possible future retirement locations (and I may have found "the one"!) and did an incredibly gorgeous century ride:
Garmin Connect
It included the climb up to, and on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Also a descent on a stretch off of the parkway down into Vesuvius, where I crashed and separated my shoulder a few years ago. Took it pretty cautiously this time!
The time was pretty slow partially because of the amount of climbing, and because towards the end I was mainly just exploring a little bit. I also hit a 10-mile or so stretch of gravel that I wasn't expecting, and it was on some quite steep mountain roads, so I took those pretty slowly needless to say
Can't wait to ride them again on a gravel grinder bike.
I was kind of sad that I missed Mountains of Misery this year, which is going on this weekend. Actually I didn't "miss" it. I didn't sign up for it. I knew I was too out of shape, and just a little bit over-the-hill for this kind of effort, given the amount of weight I gained over the winter. Today's ride made me feel a lot better

I was thinking about MoM as well but didn't plan to do it until it was too late. Plus I noticed yesterday that I was still not in top form after last weekend so not doing a demanding 100 miler this weekend was probably for the best.

Nothing fancy, but I did 14 miles of easy singletrack at the local desert preserve.
I'm on vacation for a week so hopefully I'll get some road miles in since we're entering into the time of the year that the only riding happens very early in the morning.

This morning another club ride through Central Indiana farmland. 55 miles on the Screamer with my favorite stoker (or,'Turbocharger', as she refers to herself).
The corn has a long way to go to be knee high by the Fourth of July but the roadside vegetation is colorful.

Groan. You guys with your 60-70-100 milers @ 25mph make this ol' fool feel like a wimp with my paltry 22 miles @12-15mph.
But what the hey... it's really an individual thing, nes pas? As long as we're riding (he says sheepishly).

Rode the three humps with our local club today. 52 miles and 5900' of climbing. Super nice day.
Jim, that's good news about your possible relocation to Lexiington. Nice town. I am curious if Staunton was on your list of possibilities for retirement.

I agree. My 13-18 miles seems paltry to what I read here, but I am very happy with the 100 miles per week I have been riding.

Add 12 more miles to the 55 earlier today. I rode over to Charlotte Motor Speedway to visit customers I had attending the race. It is a LOT faster riding by bike than trying to go by car during a race.

Rode the D&R canal trail today, total 38 miles @ 10mph, with breaks. Perfect weather and lots of aromatic wildflowers along the path.

Beat down city on me today..
42 miles, 100+ degrees and heavy headwinds for half.. Had about 1200 feet of elevation gained and my average speed came in at a paltry 14.1 mph..
The wind and the heat both punished me thoroughly..

Did an out-and-back for about 31 this morning. The "out" part was easy, mostly downhill and with the wind. Payback was a you-know-what, though. About 1000' coming back, into a pretty nasty wind. My legs will be feeling it for a few days.
But it was gorgeous out...I do love late Spring in California.

18 or so easy miles. I'm tapering for the senior citizen offering of the Sequoia Century next Sunday: 56 miles and 5800' of climbing. It's going to be a long 56 miles.

75 miles and 5200' on the tandem today. Group ride over 2 mountain passes. Wonderful weather for this ride: cloudy and cool almost all day, no rain. I guess our training this year has been going well: we got 10 Strava PRs and a 9th place. Felt strong all day, even when we were hurting on the last climb: the 9th place was for the final 8 miles of the ride.

40 miles today, out and back. The ride included a nice ride around a scenic mountain lake. 2168' elevation climb, averaged 12.8 mph.
I didn't feel like I had much energy, put I pushed through. Days like today I keep saying to myself, "what ever I do is better than sitting home".

Followed up yesterday's hard 100-mile ride with an even harder (if shorter) 83-mile ride in Lexington:
Garmin Connect
I think I've set a record: 183 miles and not a single crappy mile in the whole bunch! No accidental gravel this time, but some very, very steep stuff, including a nasty steep (and not so short) hill on well-named "Big Hill Road." 15-17% grade for a fairly long stretch. Hooboy!
Neal: I can see Staunton from my house
Almost.

^ JimF, checked out the Garmin map of your ride. Looks like a beautiful area to ride! I'd love to try out some of those hills, just not 83 miles worth.

zero miles-I got up early to ride but suffered an sudden "responsibility attack" and worked all day in the yard. got to be careful this doesn't become a habit!

As long as we're out there, right? I've done 338 miles this month, 994 since Jan 3. Took the '02 Allez road bike out today for 19 miles. Beautiful bike and fast but I'm getting a little too old (or is that too wimpy) for the bending forward. I like the Sirrus Hybrid (flat bar) better.
