Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Spring... The marvellous season of the year where you need a puffer coat to leave home in the morning, and a t-shirt to leave work in the evening.

Spring, here, means temps in the 40sC. Yesterday was the first. Today we're managing to stay under 100A(37.5C)

Soon I will begin tearing down the 1984 Claud Butler a friend handed me for restoration, shortly before my covid adventure. I will be clamping it to the top tube, which is in such bad shape that it may have to be taken down to bare metal in order to save it.

Frankly, I don't know if either the seatpost or stem will budge. It's been sitting for a long time. I should start a thread in C&V, a more receptive and knowledgeable audience base.

I've apparently been lucky, in that none of the C&V bikes I've acquired have had stuck seatposts or stems. There was that stuck crank arm that stripped out the crank removal threads and required chuck wedges to remove, but apart from that the bikes have all been in good shape. You may be fine.

Or not.

I have heard coca-cola is worth considering.

And even if it doesn't work, it makes a great mix with rum and a bit of lime juice.

I had great hopes for April 1; a new fresh quarter, a new start. So far, it hasn't gone as planned. No details, just some stuff that puts one's mood off. After that, we drove 20 miles to a starting point with our tandem to get away from Friday afternoon traffic only to find out that I brought the wrong shoes. Our tandem has MTB spds and the shoes that I packed our road cleats.

I'm going to go to a dark room for the rest of the day.

Went shopping for palms to replace the two we lost in the big freeze of 2021. Four feet tall and $4k.

I ain't no fool.

At least not today.

Please don't desecrate a good rum that way.

I was interested to read that the original recipe for a Cuba Libre wasn't "A jigger of rum + a can of coke", but rather 1 1/2 oz of rum to 3 oz of coke (plus lime juice, of course). That's a very different drink.

And of course you don't desecrate a good rum that way. Mixing is what intermediate rums are for.

Nope, still two weeks of winter left.

Regardless, the fact that Knox County has turned into a perpetual wind tunnel pretty much dooms any notion of serious cycling again.
