Mrs. GeneJockey, OTOH, always comes to get me, but makes me wish I hadn't called her.

I heard a certain ex-president believes that we all have a fixed number of heartbeats and when we reach that limit, we die. Apparently that’s his excuse for not exercising. I don’t know if he truly thinks that, but obviously it’s not the case.
I could say more but don’t want to venture into P&R.

Last time I had to call, when my tire was slashed by glass, I made sure to remain cheerful and friendly when she arrived, rather than responding to her negativity with defensiveness, and it helped a lot. That, and she'd finally figured out how to use "Find My Friends" and Siri on her iPhone so she could locate me and get directions easily.

It would require about 100 years and a very large N, monitored constantly the whole time. You'd have to bulk up the N to account for all those who die from misadventure or other causes unrelated to running out of heartbeats.

His wife started having kids and he disappeared. Kinda inconsiderate of her.
I think my ticker is ok @150bpm for extended periods but I don't use a monitor. I've normally had a resting rate in the low 40s, freaks nurses out. Lately it's been higher, mid 50s. This concerns me a bit.

Last time I called Dr. LSS, I had been hit from behind, knocked out, and left for dead by a wealthy criminal in a white luxury SUV. LSS had a party for work people planned for that evening. I was close to home and could have ridden, but she did not make me regret calling her. She did give me some **** for not going to the ER, though.

I see the greater problem in knowing what the fated number of heartbeats was for each person. It's easy to say, "That was it!" post-hoc.

If everyone died because they ran out of heartbeats, that would not explain natural cause deaths that do not feature the heart suddenly stopping.

A guy like that used to ride with us. He was a great climber and going up the Rock Store climb he was one of the fastest and he was in the 190bpm range.
His wife started having kids and he disappeared. Kinda inconsiderate of her.

Ah, I see. I was assuming it was the same total number for all, rather than being an individual characteristic.

Don't know if you're thinking of riding this weekend but I went out today and finished around 11:00 and it wasn't too bad. Thinking this Saturday I'll try to get done before noon as well. I'm just hoping this weather improves soon.

When I had my echocardiogram done, the Echo Tech said, "Your heart rate would be a near-death experience for me." And it was a little elevated by nerves. I think it was about 50.

It would be like thinking any other muscle had a fixed number of contractions before it stopped working. I guess that would argue for lower cadence, huh?

Plans for Sunday morning dirt with my westside buddy, and bringing another friend from SGV with me. Saturday will probably be 8am on the road for a couple hours.

We're supposed to be under an Excessive Heat Watch starting Saturday morning, running till Tuesday night. Strangely, Weather Underground's 10 Day Forecast shows temps topping out at 85 on Monday. I suspect they're mistaken. In heat waves, I find their predicted highs can be off by as much as 10 degrees.

My typical resting HR is in the high 50s to low 60s. I don't know if that's good or bad, but if I'm breathing I'm happy.

Mrs. GeneJockey, growing up in a farming area, once heard, "You'll eat a bushel of dirt before you die." To her young mind, this indicated that as long as you didn't eat that bushel of dirt, you'd live forever. You just have to avoid people who offer you a big container of dirt and a spoon.

If it's above zero, you're doing better than the majority of humans ever born.
