Despite the beautiful weather - no ride today. Instead, I SAG'ed the local "women only" Cinderella metric century ride. The wife and daughter had a geat time, we got to visit with EastHill, and the family pooch was my wingman. I'm telling ya, he attracted the ladies like nothing I've ever seen.

Did a 30-mile jaunt with my friend Chris today. Up NC-39 and around some back-roads. It was relatively uneventful, right up until the end when one car passed me and the passenger flipped me off, and the car right behind it came within 1-foot of me. Pissed me off to say the least.
My friend Chris was riding my old (now his) 1974 Raleigh Grand Prix. He goofed off quite a bit and had an iPod with speakers on it, so there was a slight soundtrack to the whole ride (when I hadn't dropped him).

From my house, Bunn (at the end of 39) is about 12 miles, so this tells you about where this pic was taken.

This part of 39 has a slight uphill, yet I ALWAYS gain speed on it, like, never stop... though I would eventually. After this I took a few more. A large drop-off on the side of the road, followed by the dam at Bunn Lake (which is about 8-9 miles from Bunn )


I then handed off the camera to Chris so that he could take a picture of me (cause there aren't any of me on my bike).

Pretty ugly if you ask me .
There were gonna be more pictures, but, batteries for the camera died right at the halfway point, so... yeah. It was fun. Totally flattened one hill in 52x13. I mean I was hammering. Felt like freaking LeMond going up it.

My buddy Dan and I set out on a 30 or so mile ride this morning. It was my first ride on my Bianchi since rebuilding it. It performed wonderfully and I have to say I'm absolutely in love with the campy 10 speed stuff...
The only problem I'm having is that there is still some binding in the headset, I think because the race on the fork still isnt set correctly because of the powdercoat. I dont really have the right tools to install headsets so it's going to my LBS tomorrow.

We set out from home and headed into the hilly countryside. Yesterday was the first day of trout season and there were a lot of fisherman out.

fast forword through lots of hills, and coming down a long steep grade Dan's tire starts hissing. Time for him to fix a flat while I take pics of him and of course, my bike







Next time Dan puts air in his tires he shouldnt manhandle the valve stem and half rip it out of the tube. It really does make for less flats that way..



That's all I got. I'm really good with remembering to bring my camera, but I'm not so good with stopping riding so i can actually take pics.

I took my first longish ride in awhile today with Albert (aka Abarth here on the forums) up the Foothills trail. He was hauling his son in the kiddie trailer and put the hurt on me! I'm such a wussy. We ran into Stringbreaker and his wife which was nice too...His Volare was blingin' in the sun and his wifes mixte was outa sight!
I was riding my just about completed Peugeot 650b conversion and Albert was riding his Motobecane Grand Jubile. About 1/2 way through our ride my knees blew up which really sucked but the ride was very nice none the less. Best day of the year so far! Now I need to tackle the knee pain and get some miles in before our next ride 'cause I don't wanna be the hurtin' slow poke. It sure was a nice day for a ride!

On Saturday, I organized a ride for my local club. It was a fine New England spring day, about 40 and overcast at the start and 37 and hard rain by the end. My chosen route is a 40-mile loop from my house in Brookline, MA, through the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, then Dedham, then Dover, then Westwood, and then looping back through those towns. Lots of gentle rolling hills and even a few horse farms once you get out of the city. Despite the weather, it was a great ride. Some pics.

The three stalwarts at the start in my backyard: Left to right it's yours truly, Ray, and Chuck in full kit. I was on my '74 Norman Fay English tourer, Chuck was on a 1940 Stoddard Clubman, and Ray was on his '74 Bob Jackson set up with a 3-speed AW hub.


I'm fairly terrible about stopping and taking pics, but I did want to get this one of a very pretty pond about a third of the way in to the ride.

Last Saturday was the first (annual?) Texas Velo Roundup. Here's a few photos from the ride part of the event. 22 miles from just south of Fair Park in Dallas, out to White Rock Lake, loop around the lake and back to the start.





I rode my Gazelle A-Frame for the first lengthy ride on that bike in a while. It was good to get some miles on the downtube shifters again, but I think I really need to get a different freewheel. The Sachs 12-28 7speed I have on the wheels now never has played nicely with the SRAM PC-68 chain.

This evening I pumped up the tires on the Gazelle AB-Frame and took off to start exploring routes for the upcoming vintage ride I'm putting together. Out and back was just under 20 miles, mostly on residential streets of homes that cost 4x what mine does, or still empty lots; and quiet rural roads.

I did 35 miles with the BF NorCal group on Saturday, and took the pup (and family) to the beach on Sunday. He likes to chase the seagulls......

Great pictures. Was your ride part of the regularly scheduled Saturday morning Wheelman ride? If not it looks like you covered much of the same ground. Great area for riding.

Chris, great that Competition is still working out for you. The ride I did was for the Veterans Cycle Club of New England. A good group.

Today I rode the length of the Minuteman Trail from Cambridge to Bedford, then down to Concord, then back home through Lincoln, Waltham, Belmont, Watertown, Brighton. An overall good ride, but I got worn out fighting bad roads and too many cars on Trapelo road from Lincoln through Waltham. Avoid if possible!

Funny you should mention the Minuteman Trail. That was my regular ride when I lived in Davis Square back in the mid-1990's. I haven't done the whole trail in a while. Great ride.

I rode out of the city yesterday, a total ride of around 24 miles. It was one of the nicest days that we have had this spring (today is supposed to be nicer). It was on of the nicest routes that I have taken, no traffic, no stoplights etc. I saw things that I have never seen before so it had a bit of an adventure feel. My rear can't wait for the (80s) brooks saddle to break-in, ouch.

Did a family ride today up the north Cascades Highway. 40 miles, 3000' of gain.
Lots of stops, picnicking, playtime. Most of the stretch features dry smooth pavement still closed to cars,
so it was quiet and peaceful, not to mention warm, wind still and strenuous.

My friend came home for the weekend and we went out for a nice two hour tour to the Ashokan Reservoir area in the Catskill Mountains of NY. This is a major supply for New York City; the largest unfiltered water supply in the world. Under that water in the background, there are whole towns completely submerged!

It's a seasonal closure. Up ahead the DOT is still working on removing snow and avy debris from last winter.

Around here it is a spring tradition to ride this gorgeous road in the tiny window of time between full closure and opening day when the tourist hordes come spilling over the pass.

I don't even know where to start with this one.....

Traditionally, this is a "family" ride for me - I take my girls up thre every year for a nice 40 mile spin around The Buttes. This time however, the girls backed out at the last minute and decided to stay home. I had previously asked Bikingshearer and Blankcrows to come along, and since they were still "in" I abandoned my family and took a ride with the boys.

What a day. The weather was marvelous, there was very little wind, and the scenery was very nice. But, we could have been riding in BFE for all any of that mattered. What made this ride truly special was being out on this particular day, with these two particular fellows. We had so much fun fooling around, telling bad jokes, flirting with the women, busting on each other, and trading stories all day that I hated to see it come to an end. It felt good to be 16 again, if only for a couple of hours.

We ended up with about 54 miles and maybe a 1,000' of climbing, but this was one of the best bike rides I've had in recent memory.

I took my 1980 Swiss Mondia down from the wall for this one, and Bill rode his vintage Miyata that was originally built for the cheapo-velo build-off. Bikingshearer stuck with his modernized Fuso.
