Here’s my excuse. That, and my NFL team, which happens to have the best record, and will have, whether they win or lose today, is playing at 4:25.

Back in my racing days (I was in my early 30's...), we would have 2 training rides per week during the winter no matter what the weather was doing. I recall many rides where the temperature was below freezing. Nowadays, I will only ride when the outside temp is over 45 degrees F.

Here in Northern California, we're in the middle of sequential atmospheric river (slash) portable pumps at the ready (slash) flash flood watch (slash) mudslide road closure (slash) sinkhole road closure (slash) deadly falling trees (slash) have your "go bag" packed season.
Still preferable to raging wildfire season. At least we can breathe.
At the moment, indoor cycling doesn't seem so bad.

in the fall, on leafy trails, my studs sometimes skewer leaves & they become a distracting nuisance
once ice shows up I like the studs because I can't predict when they will be helpful
what knocks me down is fresh powder over flat ice. the snow compacts into my treads lifting me over the studs, rendering them useless. then the round smooth tires just slide right out from under me
saw a video of fat bikers w/ studded tires racing on a frozen lake last year. one biker can be seen doing great, but then rides over a patch of snow (not deep) & when he gets to the edge of the smooth ice he goes right down. this did not affect everyone, so I deduced my problem was the voids in the tire treads. meaning I needed larger voids so they would be less likely to fill / clog w/ compacted snow. I'm changing 1 bike
from these
to these
still waiting for snow to show up

Why would the rest of the country care what happens to California? We Californians certainly don't give the rest of the country a second thought. Or even a first thought.
