Except for the not-pictured new hoods, this thing is done for now. If I come across an old silver Blackburn EX-1 I'll grab it, but otherwise I'm happy. Fenders are Wald B26s with some SKS mounting hardware I had left over. Also new is Crane bell and the cheapy Kalloy dirt drop stem that I had todo the penny+bolt trick to thread the bar through

There's no room in my cubicle. There's room in the building, but it would be a tough sell to management. Plus, we're growing, and I don't know how long we'll have extra space available.

Really digging the look of that bike. I may may go in that direction when I get back to fiddling with my '85 Shogun Prairie Breaker; sporting a very similar color to yours. I think I'd probably ride it more with fenders, at least. So many bikes, so little time!

I used the little draw bolts that come with SKS, and many other, fenders.The holes in the Wald fenders are a bit too small to fit the SKS draw bolts, so I drilled them out the tiniest bit. I then bent the stays to fit up inside the fender to slip through the hole in the draw bolt. Radius-ing the stays was the hardest part.

All of the hardware, including the fenders, was fished out of the bins at my local bike co-op. If I was paying retail I don't know that I'd choose the Walds. They're chrome plated steel, instead of aluminum or stainless, and you're looking at ~$38 for them, plus another $20 worth of SKS hardware. For $58 you're knocking on the door of the $75 Gilles Berthoud stainless items

I am still on the hunt for a bar / stem combo that i can use with a compact style bar to reduce my reach so i can spend more time in the drops. Id like to to have the removable face plate. I really want to run the Velo Orage Dajia or the Soma Hwy 1 bars but they dont make a 25.4 bar. Everything is 26.0. I cant seem to find a 26.0 quill stem with a removable face plate. I love the looks of the cheap SUNILIGHT quill stem i have on the bike now. It is tall enough and looks correct being silver and all.

I see orign8 makes a black quill stem that accepts a 31.8 bar. That would be a simple way to add modern compact bars but i dont know if the stem itself would be tall enough. Another option would be to find someone who makes a longer style quill adapter to a threadless style stem.

Inherited my Dad's 93 Raleigh MT-200 last year. My goal was to turn this old rigid into a commuter/touring/gravel/do it all bike as cheap as possible. I ended up spending a little more than I wanted but I have less than $150 in it. I have some more to do but it's a start.

I recently updated my dad's old Rock Hopper with newer components (the original BioPace was too worn) and a Jones Loop Bar.
But I became a bit nostalgic of the Rock Combo I use to have and decided to add Salsa Cowchippers and a Gevenalle "Retroshifter".
At this point it's more modern, but the bones (and point job) are still very much retro, and every bit as fun as I remember.

Thanks. The thumbies are still the same ones that the bike was fitted as new - shimano sl my 20 - 3 speed friction front , 6 speed indexed/ friction rear. The current setup for my city commuting is ok - i use them in friction mode with 9speed deore crankset front and 7 speed 12-28 cassette rear.
The ones from the avatar are 7 speed indexed/friction rear and 3 speed front shimano Deore xt 732 that I will use for another project.

I've never tried MTB thumbies up on the tops of a drop bar, but there's plenty of precedent in this thread. My stash of old friction bar ends has run out, so maybe on the next project. I've heard folks say that the ones with the steel cages are better, so you can bend them open to fit around a road bar.

I've heard that the steel cages will brake after some time if you put them on a regular 23.8mm drop bar, so I got the Purecycles 22.2mm drop bar and the thumbies fit with no need to open the cages. In fact this is the only drop bar on the market offered where you can fit any mtb shifter as all are 22.2mm. The bar ends cost too much in my opinion for doing the same job. I wonder why Purecycles 22.2mm grip area diameter drop bar is the only model to fit mtb shifters , all other drop bars are 23.8mm and will fit only the more expensive bar ends or dual control STI road shifters and sometimes I may not need/want them.
