Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well yeah, that's part of it. And critically, I use a LOT of my battery per day, since all working days it's going throughout on podcasts and calls.

That's one of the big things for me, better camera that doesn't involve lugging anything else around. AND better battery. AND the bigger screen - I gave AG my Xr and got the 11 Pro because it fit better while riding. With that not a concern, went bigger.

The whole dynamic island/ crash detection/ satellite communication is nice, but not the kicker. I think they know if they made a regular model with the pro camera module they'd lose a ton of pro sales.

Speaking of phones, I am using an 8, the rest of the family have 12’s. My 8 is starting to show signs of wear, so I am plotting to upgrade to a 13 or 14 soon.

Ties are stupid.

Both the sports outcome and the clothing.

NFL-wise, do away with them, hand both teams a loss.

gradually starting to accept the possibility over here that i’m not going to make my climbing goal for the year!

31,000 feet to go and only 26 days left, which would be maybe 15 rides, four possible long rides if i consider the 31st. 4 x 4,000 + 11 x 1,000 = 4k short, at least.

So, you're like 3 x Kings Mountain behind? C'mon! You only need to do OLH 24 times in 26 days! That's once a day with two rest days!

I'd note that I do a lot less climbing IRL than I think I'm going to. I am fit enough now that none of the local climbs scare me. But the descents do, and of course the less practice I have descending, the less confidence I have in my skills, which makes me even less inclined to do the climbs. A vicious circle!

If you take a day to Everest a local hill, you will be back on track.

i tend to think of it in hawk hill increments, which is my most common small climb. makes it seem very accessible! only need to do the whole ride 15 times, or the most direct part of the climb 50 times.

or maybe i’ll do some twin peaks or san bruno repeats at lunch!

descents don’t scare me, but i do feel cheated when i can’t go almost full speed. energy lost to braking is forever gone, gradually contributing to the heat death of cycling.

there’s a decent chance of something like that if i find myself on vacation with the family down south between christmas and new years. but i’m thinking my limit is probably more like 10-15k. not sure what lesser peak that is.

Maybe, I’ll install the rear derailer, the shifters, have them swap the BB, and then I’ll finish the rest. I dunno.

How hard is hooking the shifting cables up to the derailers, and actually getting them to function properly?
Boooo!
