It's a fun climb, and was a super fun ride. Only ended with 4600' but with my friend unfortunately suffering from some bad allergies that's probably for the best.
It's definitely feeling like summer, I was absolutely soaked at the top but the descent cooled us off nicely for the last hour and a half back to the start.

About 1/3 of the way up at a rock slab with a nice view.

One time he clipped a woman's car when he swung too wide in a turn. The next morning her husband shows up at our door, she must have followed my dad, I don't know. Anyway the guy starts ranting and threatening my mother but he cooled his jets as soon as my dad appeared. Lucky for him.

My dad stopped driving before he was my age. my mother took care of shopping and getting his vodka but she never drove much. He died when he was 69 in the Long Beach VA hospital. She lived another 12 or 13 years after that and only drove like 1000 miles per year. Neither of them ever crashed a car but he had a few incidents of bumping into things at low speed when he was impaired.

Dad surprised us by never getting into any car-car collisions, because he was TERRIBLE about tailgating. Either he was very lucky, or had gunslinger reflexes.

Have not ridden since Saturday. Am grumpy about it.
My trip was good, got home at 11:30 last night and was too tired to get out this morning. Weather looks crappy tomorrow so it could be a trainer day, we will see

I set out for some self-inflicted pain today, but got a little more than I bargained for. Copy/pasta from Strava - The plan was a sub-5-hour solo century attempt. I was tracking well, but the wind really kicked up as the morning wore on. By mile 70 or so, it was clear that (in addition to inflicting emotional damage) the 10-mile headwind section was making me bleed more time than I could make up on the tailwind section, so I pulled the plug.
Anyway, yeah - that hurt. Damn wind - itsucks blows.

Went for a ride this morning and I saw a small dog on the side of the road as I was cruising @20MPH+. I backed off a bit and moved toward the center of the lane. The dog saw me and started moving away then suddenly turned and bolted right in front of me. It was a heart stopping moment, for sure. I skidded the rear tire and I'm pretty sure I just brushed the dog with my front tire. Could have gone a lot worse.

Very tough climb on dirt to finish the day. I’m going to get rained on all day tomorrow.

On the bright side, our daughter is coming up for the weekend to celebrate her birthday and Father's Day, and I'm excited about that.

Even worse is heading into the wind for a long stretch so you can turn around and get the push home, but then realizing the ride into the headwind was mostly downhill, and the ride back with the push is mostly uphill.

Ah, yes - not only does the tailwind do you little good aerodynamically, but also if you're climbing at the same speed as the tailwind, you marinate in a chimney of your own metabolic heat.

The first lap, before the wind kicked up, I only lost ~60 seconds on the ~10 miles where I had a straight headwind. The second lap, I think I lost something like 4-5 minutes. I was still on pace, but just barely and I was having to bust ass. The third trip, which was shortened, was at a 15mph pace, which... yeah - there's no making that up.

Abshipp. On the 16th of June I scheduled a meeting at 8 am not knowing it was going to give me the whole day off. Anyways the meeting is going to take 30 mins and I will be in Charlotte. I could come to you if you are available. Just throwing that out there.
Got good news today, I’m getting based back in New York August 1st.
I can’t do 4 days on 2 days off. I have literally spent my whole day off running around. Tomorrow I have to go back to Charlotte.
