Yes Classtime, I have the original Carlton hoods, they have a fair number of scratches from over the years and the hard material, these are much more comfortable to ride with and as you say fit perfectly...

I too have an A#### number that I haven't figured out yet.

A while ago I joined a Carlton group on FB. Lots of Brits there. I posted the "Annnn" question, and got a quick reply: "Everybody knows those are from 1973!"

Take it for what it's worth. Might be true fact; they might have been "taking the Mickey" out of a newbie Yank. I prefer to think both.

Competition SN

Thanks for that information. I suspected my Competition might be from 1973. Maybe after I get a few more posts on here and I finish putting my bike back together I can post a picture. Michael

The Carlton Facebook group actually includes numerous former employees of Carlton. I've been a member of the group for years and have shared several bikes and been involved in conversations about dozens of others that intrigue me. Several members there are certainly experts about the later production Carltons in particular, such as those from the '70s-'80s, because they were in fact building them!

Fixed up myself, save for a few details for the LBS. Rear mech is askew because it just got out of the car.

Mostly correct The bars are tweaked uneven, and the brake hoods are crustal.

Presently sporting Mavic Module 3 rims with a not matching Shimano front hub (makes me feel dirty).
