I don't know what to say about this younger generation . . . . complaining about just 5 days a week?

In my day I was thrilled to have a Sunday off. Saturday was a work day.
If I recall, it took me seven years to earn more than 2 weeks vacation a year.

We arrived at the beach house Friday late afternoon. We just got home a few minutes ago. Feels like we've been gone a week! We are not beach people. The wife and her brother will return tomorrow and I will return Wed, for a Thu departure.
The grandson knows us by name and voice, so there's that.

Why when I were a lad, we 'ad to get up half an hour before we went to bed and work all day in the mines, with nothing but half a handful of cold gravel for supper, and if we dared complain, our fathers would kill us, and dance on our graves singing "Hallelujah!"

The Older Boy walks to work, or walks home most days. It's uphill in both directions, literally, because there's a hill between here and there, even though we're basically at the same elevation.

No doubt. I’ve been there, that was my trial of fire. They sent me to Boston every week for about 4 months, I used to bring live lobster home with me every Friday, that was my positive spin on the matter. Kept the wife happy, too. And in the long run it got me a promotion.

Nice ride today. Not great, but good. I took the Battaglin, having just gotten a brand new Conti Grand Prix tire for the rear to replace the one that got a cut with alarmingly few miles on it.
About 8 miles from the end, I think I hit a rock. 1/4 mile later, the rear end felt spongy, and then it felt really rough. Flat as a pancake. I was picturing a big damn gash or something in my brand new tire, but there was not a blemish - which is why I thing it was that rock.
Anyhow, it was a convenient place to fix a flat, with a nice fence to hang the bike on, and a post to lean the wheel against while I pumped it up. Someone must have had a long talk with Continental, because the tire came off the rim and went back on with nothing but hand pressure. The Battaglin has a pump peg, so I always carry a full-size frame pump on it, and it made short work of reinflating the tire. Whoever said, "Hey, lets build frames that won't hold a pump!" should be hanged, drawn, and quartered.
