Addiction 2023.2

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We spent a week in ND riding across the country, with a rest day in Minot. I picked up a pamphlet from the Chamber of Commerce or something similar. IIRC, the average high in February was something like 22 degrees. No thanks.

Daughter just accepted a job as a NOAA scientist. She says she will be out on the Bering Sea on a chartered trawler up to 60 days a year.

It all started when we threw her in the water over a coral reef with fins and a snorkel at age 5. She knows how to sail and has done some racing and cruising, but can take it or leave it. For her, romance is more about standing on a vibrating steel deck with a cup of bad coffee at O-crap thirty, waiting for a net of slimy, wriggling, things to come up from the deep.
