That being said lumpy welds are not in any way indicative of quality. It just means that the manufacturer didn't add extra material to made a weld look smooth. I personally could care less if my bike has lumpy welds or not.

So you got one of the last production bikes, eh? They just shut down the production plant in Oregon and all Skeletors will be henceforth custom one-offs. They have one last shipment of Havocstaffs, which are the stiffer bb30 versions. Apparently they were barely breaking even on the Skeletors.

OP, build looks great!! Ride the crap out of that thing!!

The one above is not a bad looking bike. But that logo in blue is pure Fisher-Price.
Think you'd do better to buy a new or barely used Caad on Ebay.

I know it's not a quality issue, but to me it shows attention to detail. And Trek has some of the globbiest looking welds out there. To me that says mass-production at the fastest rate. Plus it simply looks better and cleaner.

Concur. I like the flat colors and simple badging...but the logo is very kid-toy looking with a little "Hooters" thrown in.

Sidenote: I'm surprised there aren't trademark issues considering Skeletor and HavocStaff are exactly the names, spelling, etc of trademarks owned by Hasbro.

This model should look familiar. The rider is Cyril Dessel.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but that Spooky looks like it was fabbed and finished as quickly as possible. But hey, I'm just an ME that worked in Alcoa's aerospace and automotive R&D for several years. What do you do for a living?

If you're really such a smarty pants, I'd think you would know what a nice weld looks like, and appreciate efficiency in manufacturing.
Then again, you did say it was fabbed and finished as quickly as possible. I'm sure that's very true. I'm a bit of a loss as to why an ME would think that was a bad thing though...I guess your deadlines were a bit more lenient than mine are!

And yeah, a some famous professional cyclists rode Cyfacs. Maybe some of their parents did too. But then again professional cyclists ride bikes. Even the best cyclists in the world ride bikes. They don't get to chose what bikes they ride though. Once they retire they do but even the retired ones don't ride Cyfacs.
Also nobody cares about your job. "Oh I'm an engineer I work with airplanes and cars I'm really important and I know what a smooth weld looks like."
Why do you care what anyone else on here does for a living anyways? That's not how dick sizing with cycling works.

That is the way welds look! (You know this, I realize.
)
When there is no evidence of a bead at all like the Cyfac (and other bikes) then it's been sanded and they might have even added bondo or a similar material to the area to make it perfectly smooth.

Is that a problem? They do this on custom motorcycles all the time. If it doesn't effect the integrity of the weld, why not at least take a moment or two to make it look nice? This was a big selling point for me with the Z85 and Defy 1.

I'm all for USA-made lumpy welds, cheap paint, and decals being available for $700 + shipping if people want them.
I just showed my Cyfac as an example of nice looking welding and paint. I bought it used for less than that Spooky.

Any weld can be smoothed out. You can't see the care and skill put into it.

If Spooky were to create a series of comic books, cartoons or toy figures with those names, Hasbro's lawyers would be all over them in no time.
