My wife was stung by a small scorpion in Tucson which the locals claimed was worse than being stung by an adult scorpion. The sting was on her forearm and was painful for a few days. She said it felt like there was something under the skin trying to burrow its way out, ala Alien.

Anything with more than four legs needs to be killed with fire.

It varies with the type of scorpion. This one was very mild----less than a bee sting(but I have a mild allergic reaction to bee stings). Significantly less than a wasp sting. I stepped on one in the night, in Belize, and it felt like I'd stepped on a broken bottle that went 2' deep into my heel. That one took some time for the pain to settle down.

My sting story is that I was coming home from a ride about 8 years ago, and a yellow jacket wasp got under my jersey and stung me several times. I finished the ride and on my way home I went into a severe allergic reaction with all-over hives and tongue tingle/swelling, lightheaded, and the dreaded "impending doom" sensation. I had mrs datlas drive me to the ED where they gave me a shot of epinepherine, it felt like an super-dose of caffeine but solved the problem. I subsequently got venom shots from an allergist friend to "cure" me of the allergy and although the shots were annoying, I can now get stung by those evil critters and only have a local reaction.

The thing is, from my own experience I know how easy it is to just gain a lot of weight, and how much work it is not to. So I'm less inclined to judge. I've noticed a lot of actresses tend to gain a lot of weight as they leave the "pretty young thing" category, and it makes me think they'd spent a whole lot of time and energy for a good 20 years or more staying skinny, and it must be an enormous relief not to have to do that anymore.

When I lived in the desert, I was worried about those. I don’t recall ever seeing one though. Did see a bunch of sun spiders. They are gross.

Iirc, a stronger scorpion sting will give a metallic taste in the mouth for a day or three. I may be recalling incorrectly, but it's some kind of bite/sting that does that.

You rarely see a scorpion until after the fact. They like to stay in the dark, like a cockroach. This one was stuck in the kitchen sink and, rather than kill it, like I would normally do,I put a towel there so it could climb out. I later picked up that towels to dry my hands, and it had hidden itself there, in the dark. A little forethought would have prevented it, but it was only annoying as it was. I later released it outside.

We also had those big centipedes, like the size of a pencil. They sting, too.

The ones we have out here are small, 2-3 inches at most, usually around 2". We had them in the house where we used to live. Mrs John stepped on one but it didn't sting her, it just ran across the floor. They run fast!

Changed out my car battery that was dead today after 34 months. This is battery 3 for a 4.5 year old car. The thing was under warranty and it was free at the parts store where i got it. Not prorated, strange. Changed engine air filter on one car and got a cabin air filter* for the other. will install later since its been 13 months and 11,000 miles and still looks as clean as my colon. I'm storing it in the glove box so I can't miss it. **** big oil change. I saved $30 by doing it myself.
I wish I could find an independent shop but they don't exist around here. My dad had an auto repair shop which he started in August 1960 and my older brother is now running it. Independent shops are dinosaurs which is sad.

We have large brown house centipedes but supposedly, they’re harmless. Ours got in the house from bringing in firewood. Our variety is supposed to be death on spiders but we catch and flush them anyway. They’re way too gross to let run around. Ick!

Saw a guy riding shirtless today. Did not vouchsafe him a return wave.

Thought about trying shirtless, but I want to make friends and not run them off.
Plus, my jersey serves as a girdle of sorts.
I told my wife today that I would like to trim my waist from 36 to 34 by the wedding in November. Never heard her laugh so hard.

I took a short ride. I saw a guy on a recumbent and we waved to each other. We did not judge or preach. I did not look at his chain to see if it was clean.

We had a good ride. It was a group of 10 riders and we are all roughly at the same fitness level, and reasonably organized. We did get yelled at by a driver in the opposite direction, we were riding two abreast, and he yelled “SINGLE FILE *******S!!” He was obviously triggered.
