30 good miles in flat FL in stunningly beautiful weather, just as the sunset. Sorry, no pics.

After riding for the better part of a month in the mountains of VA on the Giant, this felt like a vacation on the much cushier Domane. I did push it for the first 3/4 of the ride......I’m averaging close to 20 mph, feeling pretty good about that.

21 miles. My Lezyne Macro didn't close the file properly, so the details were lost. Lezyne support was fast and competent. Temp in the high 50s. That used to be warm enough for shorts, but now I need long pants and 3 layers on top. Low 70s predicted for tomorrow.

Yesterday against my better judgement I decided to ride my route with an out and back cat 2 climb. I ride it all the time but yesterday there was a 25+ mph wind blowing directly in my face all the way up.

Didn't think I was going to make it since a couple of times I was down to 4 mph and putting out over 260 watts which I can do for little while but not sustained. But made it to the top and ended up setting a couple of PR's. On the climb my new PR was 8+ minutes more than my previous slowest time and over 13 minutes more than my best time. But, on the way back down I was able to set a new top speed PR at 60 mph. Even got the radar speed sign to flash "slow down" which is a first. Also best time summit back to the house.

Still, I prefer the ride when not riding in a gale.

I rode 38 miles today. I rode up the Confluence Trail then on to the Sam Vadabalene Trail till I reached Elsah IL, then went back. I took a bunch of impressive panaramas with my gcam app... which didn't take a single picture of anything. My Nokia has been having issues with gcam in general since Android One upgraded to version Q (edit: version 10).

40 good hard miles to Williston town center and back. The Walgreens Pharmacy in the town (exactly half way) used to have a little bench where I would crash for a bit and drink some fluids, but they took it away. Oh well, the lawn worked out fine. Traffic on the main road is not too bad, but tomorrow I will ride the Hawthorne Trail.

And my Garmin ran out of juice on the ride back, so didn’t log my speed, but a I mashed the pedals pretty good. Solo, no wind I am around 18-20mph in relatively flat riding.

i can sense the FL summer coming, though it was in the low 80s and quite pleasant today.

A really nice day to be outside today wasn’t it! I took advantage of the perfect riding weather and did a longer ride. There are four longer bike routes in Piedmont NC that are extremely well marked and I rode one of them today. Here’s a link:

https://www.ptrc.org/services/region...k-bicycle-plan

I rode the Southern Uwharrie Loop and it was 137 miles with 7450’ of climbing. While I’ve ridden longer rides I think this was my longest on on my new hip. While I normally find roads that bypass towns I figured out they designed these loops to intentionally take you through the towns. It was fun seeing some different roads. The towns/communities it goes through are Locust, Stanfield, Oakboro, Peachland, Polkton, Wadesboro, Ansonville, Norwood, Albemarle, New London, Misenheimer and Millingport.

All was going as planned until 20+ miles to go. My rear shifter cable broke and when that happens the chain moves to one gear....and of course it’s the hardest gear on the bike! I had thought about grabbing my mini chain link tool before I left but never followed through so I didn’t have it.....I also had ordered and received new shifter cables but have been putting off replacing them. MY brother had told me about cables breaking earlier than normal on these shifters but thought I could get in some more rides before changing them.

Anyway the last 20+ miles was pretty challenging on tired legs and a hard gear. Most of the remainder of the ride was on Millingport Rd which has a lot of rollers and 2 pretty steep hills. I almost got up the steepest one but needed to walk the last 100 yards. A NC Highway Patrolman was kind enough to stop and check to see if I was okay. I was determined to ride the whole route so I took off again after I got to the top of hill. My hip barked at me a few times on some hills but it stayed in place!

I was really great to get back to the start!!

Signage for the loop. Turns well marked with confirmation signs after the turns.

Beautiful older Plantation dating back to 1834. Betting it was a cotton plantation.

View from the road.

Car museum!

Nice park in Downtown Albemarle.

Daisy’s came out this week.

Gorgeous riding through that stretch. No houses nor vehicles.....lots of forests.

10+ miles, 3 bridges, A1A, Hwy #1 , Old Dixie Hwy. Nice weather, ~75F, cool breeze, blinding sunny at times.
Stopped on one of the draw bridges to take a few photos. As one can see on the photo not much space for bikes or pedestrians on this bridge and the barrier is about knee high.

Before it got too hot and windy, took the youngest out for the "fingers" - went up and down the gravel roads off of our main road. I'll have to remember to take a camera next time.

45 miles on the Gainesville - Hawthorne Trail, with added on both sides to make up the distance. Really nice weather day, lots of folks out, bumped into a former work colleague and his family out biking......

I’ve been taking short rides, 3 to 5 miles, trying to get back in shape after illness cancelled last year’s efforts. Still soon, but my friend Cris and I rode a bit over 13 miles form Ashburn to Herndon and back. It was such a perfect day!

And I wasn’t that tired either. May try a short one agin today, though it’s getting late. Too many chores to start earlier.

19.89 miles, Strava says. I went out more for interval-type riding than for miles. High 60s and low 70s, S or SE wind, so ride home was against the wind but much easier than my last couple of rides against the wind. Rain tomorrow and Tuesday, then sunny, mid-50s. Las t2 weeks of the month are predicted to be sunny, dry, and 60s and 70s. Yippee!

Rode 45 miles in the morning, much of it on the Gainesville Hawthorne Trail. The trail itself is largely canopied and runs through Payne’s Prairie. Some awesome estuaries along the way. But watch out for the alligators! It’s relatively easy to add mileage, which is what I did by starting at UF Hospital, then riding a bit in Hawthorne.

Later, rode another 30 to the small town of Raleigh and back. So 75 good miles for the day.

38 miles this AM in gorgeous morning FL weather. I guess FL is re-opening slowly, because roads definitely getting busier - which makes it probable I'll have to think about re-routing a bit. I'll miss my standard 30 and 40 mile routes - the roads have a nice bike lane, are super smooth, and it's relatively easy to pile up mileage. Like being on vacation after the rugged hills of VA!

But the large trucks, even though the majority are polite, are just a bit too much to be sharing the road with.........

Road my same 13.5 ride Sunday and today. It’s great to be back in the saddle. And smiling when I got back. Need a 65 year jersey.

I got 25 miles in before the weather changed from sunny/70s to windy/cloudy/60s. I did a Brooklyn waterfront ride into Coney Island and then directly back home.

Today I led 5 others (all well over 50) on a 65.5 mile ride with 3,174 feet of climbing, to an iconic nearby climb.

46 miles in excellent dry weather just as it started to heat up. Good pace, but I stopped to look at a vintage Thunderbird and forgot to stop the timer

This is a post ride pic - nothing more therapeutic than a salt water pool !

Did a nice 32 mile loop midday on the vintage Trek. Man, I love that bike. Bought it new in ‘83 and have been in love ever since. Nothing puts a stupid grin on my face like that old girl!
