Another Euro-spec Peugeot from the seventies has found its way to One Browns Lane. This one is in very good original condition with the exception of the removed braze-on for the DT Simplex shifter. In its place are Suntour stem shifters. I personally like stem shifters but did Simplex ever make them? I think I have some vintage Hurets somewhere.

Paint, chrome and decals are nearly perfect.

This saddle is toast!

I got it while searching for a Trek 700 Tri Series or a non-rusted Super Course 12 as an emergency replacement for my cracked Bridgestone commuter.

It’s just a dual-pivot front caliper away from being my favorite bike yet! I’m a little hesitant to drill out the fork for that upgrade.

Excuser moi for bringing up an old post but what is that handlebar and how is it?

Nice Peugeot. Yes, Simplex did make stem shifters. My UO8 came with them. I replaced them about a year after I bought it. That was about 1973, I think.

I've posted this before and elsewhere, but what the heck. This was an '83 PFN10. Since the N signified clincher tires and this now has sewups on Mavic rims it is now a PF10. PF instead of PX means it is made with Vitus tubing, in this case 181. The FD is a Simplex SJA222, the original type which screws directly into a thread hole in the ST. From today's ride:

Interesting how Peugeot went back to Reynolds tubing from the Super Vitus 980 they used in the first two years of this model.

This has been on my list of grail bikes for many years. I have had four escape me at various auctions because of not wanting to pay obscene prices. They do not come up for sale often. I was amazed to be successful this time bidding the starting number.

This is my 1972 chrome Rene Herse. The components are an odd mix, but mostly original. The derailleurs are Huret Jubilee and the shifters are Campagnolo. The headset and bottom bracket are French thread Campagnolo. The stem and crankset are Rene Herse. Hubs are Pelissier and rims are Mavic 700c clincher. Seatpost is a 26.8 Campagnolo with a Gilles Berthoud saddle. Brakes are Mafac Competition with a GB Randonneur handlebar. Pedals are Lyotard Berthet.

Stem upgrade for the Motobecane, now with branding to match the bars. Thanks again to @jdawginsc. Some fresh Newbaums, too.

markk900 It almost looks like it was removed by prying it off. There is still a little metal from the two spot welds but no deforming of the tubes or grinding marks. It is the very good condition of the paint and decals that is amazing on this bike. The rims and spokes are also rust free. It will be really nice when completed, but I am doing a similar Peugeot for a customer that is in much worse condition. When complete it will be given back to the customers brother as a gift. The brother toured Europe on it in the late seventies.

1973 Peugeot PX-10

Recently acquired frameset had been repainted. The down

tube graphic initially suggests late 1960s, however the tabbed on rear derailleur cable stop and the remains of rivet holes from the serial number in the bottom bracket shell but still with the curly Nervex Professional lugs make this more likely a 1973 model. Nearly original component group pulled from stock on hand.

Here is a 1972-3 Stella mixte that was donated to the Bike Exchange a couple weeks ago. It was in pretty good condition as is but I resto modded it any way . New paint( saved the old decals) cranks, brakes, levers, derailleurs, etcetera. Actually , I think it is a pretty rare bike. The factory burned down in 1975 so this is one of the last bikes. I couldn't find another one shown anywhere. is it possibly the last survivor, at least in the US?

This 1975 Grand Jubile is a recent acquisition, shown as it was when brought home. It needs some frame alignment and will get a nice 700c wheelset and a 7-speed freewheel. May play around with different bar and stem combos, as my customer (Mrs. S) sees fit. Then I’ll polish up all that Huret and Stronglight goodness!

My 1971 PX-10E is in parts right now but I’m pretty sure I have everything on hand to put it back together.

really surprised that a "self extracting" crank bolt was possible with the odd oversized Stronglight crank threading.

that rear derailleur exchange might mean the original hanger was cut off.

This 1977 Peugeot Tourist was rebuilt for the original owner over the last couple of months. It will be picked up Sunday by his brother who had it restored for him as a gift. Acquired two parts bikes in the process. One will be a nice upcoming project.
