I see this a lot on department-store type bikes, assembled by inexperienced people. Bikes are shipped with the forks reversed in the box, to save couple inches of space in the truck. An inexperienced assembler will pull the bike out of the box and assume the fork is in the intended orientation, slap the rest of the parts on, and call it done. The buyer takes the bike home, rides it, and discovers it handles like crap, and let it gather dust in the back of the garage for a couple years until they get motivated to clean the garage.

I'm assuming this is some sort of typo, but here's a partial, probably late 70s Lejeune Competition (Spidel Competition? I don't know the 70s models very well) in Prescott AZ for...$4,500 or trade for a 4wd vehicle
https://prescott.craigslist.org/bik/...532206807.html
Maybe they meant $45.

This "almost" makes me feel normal as I have been thinking about doing something similar to the remnants of a 1986 Fuji Suncrest MTB but I think I'm going to use mustache bars, a Bendix 2 speed and "slick" tread WWW tires.

Nope, that fork can easily handle the torque of that drum brake reaction arm. Over the last 15 years I have put over 10,000 miles on my 1972 Raleigh Super Course equipped with a Sturmey drum brake hub. No issues at all with fork flex under braking. I'm not sure I would have set up that Paramount that way, though,
