Went to urgent care today for multi-day dizziness issue and a rash with a similar time onset. Rash is from chigger bites I apparently got when doing yard work Saturday. Dizziness is caused by ear infection in both ears.
WTF is going on with me?
Fun fact: never knew about chiggers.

I had to type 'ime' five times. The phone would not accept it.

What, the whole Solanacea family? Potatoes, tomatoes, chiles, eggplant?
Hmmm. That list is making me hungry....

Fun fact: When we were utes we were told that chiggers burrow into your skin, and thus the itch. So I began putting clear nail polish on them, to smother them. It worked well. Much later on in life I was told that the boring in thing was hogwash. Nonetheless, to this day I keep clear nail polish around, for whatever itch arises. Instant relief. There's a bottle on the floor next to my hammock as we speak.

Well, those nightmares from yesterday? Likely the end in a string of issues that exactly match her nightshade issues, starting with eggplant Friday and Saturday, then some potato chips (natural, but doesn't matter...) Saturday and Sunday, and looking and feeling out of it from Saturday through yesterday. And yes it sucks.

That's what I was thinking. I don't know that there's much defense against someone plowing into you from behind. When I'm on a road with no bike lane and the Varia signals, I move as close as possible to the edge of the road, but usually don't do more than glance over my shoulder and usually not even that. I just get as far out of the way as I can.
The Varia would have to be a lot more sophisticated to tell you much more than distance and speed.

But, IMO, the whole, "yeah, but it doesn't tell you if the vehicle is on a collision course," argument doesn't diminish the value of what it does - it's one of the few products that I'd replace immediately if I had to.

And it's not going to save you from swerving, even if it had more sophisticated vector info.

Howdy Addiction folks, been a minute. I'm still here lurking and posting from time to time, been through a bunch of major life events since I was a regular poster here. Anyway, a good friend of mine was hit by a drunk 18 year old last weekend while riding at 7 AM and is in intensive care at the hospital. Her friend was also hit and passed away. I know everyone who rides on the road for some length of time and makes connections within the cycling community eventually has stories like this, and it's just the reality we live in on shared roads with very low levels of driver accountability.
Anyway, lately I've been thinking I'd like to get some front/rear cameras set up on my bike. They won't keep me alive if I get hit, but they will at least help hold a hit/run driver accountable if the worst were to happen. Any recommendations on a setup for that? I'm not opposed to a helmet-mounted 360 cam too, that may result in some cool race/ride footage.

Same here. I was on a solo ride earlier this year and the battery in the Varia died. That was my cue that it was time to go home even though I had not completed my planned ride. It's a game changer for me, especially since I have partial left side hearing loss and have difficulty hearing traffic approaching from the rear.
