Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The new machines use very little water and soap and the clothes do look better.

listen to me now and thank me later. Buy the lowest tech home appliances you can. Manual controlled dials etc. Nothing computer chip controlled. It's a freaking washing machine that never sees the light of day.

More unsolicited advice datlas

Get yourself a pour over coffee maker. They are inexpensive and I like mine better than my French press. Just as easy to use and maintain. Enjoying 700ml of smoothness this morning.

The big issues with our LG washer and drier are -

The washer bounces around so much that it will move 6 to 8 inches with each load. We've had it balanced multiple times, but have been told "that's just what they do."

The sealing ring around the door holds where and gets mildew and smells. We dry it regularly, but still have to take it completely off on a regular basis to clean it really well. Tools required. PITA and always has a smell.

Dryer does not evacuate lint. It gets past the screen and gets stuck in the unit even though we clean the screen with each load. Requires disassembly of the inside of the thing to be able to vacume all the stuck lint out. Tools required and it is an awkward job requiring you to stick your head inside the machine. Oh, and the lint gets moist causing the machine and clothes to stink.

All my research says these are common LG issues.

I'd do some research before plopping down the stack it will take to buy the stuff. Our machines were about $2k 5 or 6 years ago. I'd toss them today, but don't want to spend money on replacements.

Definitely would not buy LG again.

We replaced our washer and dryer recently. We have a small space for those appliances, so that helps narrow down the choices. And availability.

Cost less than a Pinarello Prince.

Not really, but how do I even know how to choose between two?

There is an east-facing window in our laundry area, so ours sees the morning sun every day.

One of the weird things about adulting is that getting a nice appliance for household chores is strangely satisfying.

There is nothing satisfying about buying a washer or dryer. A nice refrigerator is a whole nuther story!

Off to golf. Even wearing my golf kit.

My old washer started coming apart inside. I guess the agitator or it's support rusted through so pieces of rusty metal would be in the clothes after a cycle. Like big chunks of rusty metal. I bought a cheap Kenmore top loader and it has been perfect for several years.
