I went too hard on my morning ride yesterday - I really thought that the evening ride would get rained out - but still had just enough go juice to keep things interesting for the boys on the group ride.
At the first highly contested sign, I couldn't make my little breakaway attempt stick, but I did at least make a few of the guys gas themselves to spring one of them ahead of me. At the other big sign, I kept it to a sprint. The guy that took the first sign came around me pretty hard, but I've got a better jump and he went a little early, so I cleared him by 10 yards or so. After that, I didn't see him until we stopped for food and beer about 5 miles later - turns out he pulled over immediately after the sign and lost his lunch

Howdy Addiction folks, been a minute. I'm still here lurking and posting from time to time, been through a bunch of major life events since I was a regular poster here. Anyway, a good friend of mine was hit by a drunk 18 year old last weekend while riding at 7 AM and is in intensive care at the hospital. Her friend was also hit and passed away. I know everyone who rides on the road for some length of time and makes connections within the cycling community eventually has stories like this, and it's just the reality we live in on shared roads with very low levels of driver accountability.
Anyway, lately I've been thinking I'd like to get some front/rear cameras set up on my bike. They won't keep me alive if I get hit, but they will at least help hold a hit/run driver accountable if the worst were to happen. Any recommendations on a setup for that? I'm not opposed to a helmet-mounted 360 cam too, that may result in some cool race/ride footage.

One thing to look at with typical action cams is battery life; they can really suck - many don't hit 90 minutes. For the front, I have a Cycliq mostly because of the battery life - it'll go 8hrs or so on a full charge - and the integrated headlight. It is a little spendy, the image quality isn't the bestest, but it was the best overall package for my needs at the time. Cycliq just announced that they're releasing a new front-facing camera very soon, though, so I would take a look at that or at least look for discounts on the current model (Fly12 HD).
For the rear, I would probably go with the new Garmin Varia with radar and video.

Blood work this morning so I'm just now having my coffee. I apparently let a lot of stuff go during covid, when they wouldn't let us through the door of the clinic. Eyes and skin atm, with ears coming up a little later. Or it could just be '70'.
I haven't ridden all week because the electrician has been here for half days, and it's good to hang around in case he needs anything. I mentioned him earlier, and yesterday he figured it all out and got everything going. I know enough about electricity to be impressed. And relieved. We thought we might have to tear up the tile floor to get to the kitchen island.

The lady that passed away was also a triathlete. That incident shook the whole RVA outdoor fitness community hard. Lot of chatter about it on MTT. Sad, Sad situation. You do need some type of camera setup. I'm getting tired of watching the Phil videos. They're good, but need some more from a different person.

Surprisingly, he's actually facing charges-
https://www.wtvr.com/news/local-news...august-23-2022
If you know Richmond geography, the fact that he thought he was on Cherokee (a twisty suburban road near the river south of the city) and was actually on Osbourne (dead straight, flat road east of the city) shows that he was cooked out of his mind and shouldn't have been anywhere near a vehicle.

Did they frequent the Average Pull group rides?

I don't think so. Natalie races MTB a lot and puts on yoga classes for cyclists around town all the time, Jonah was active with RABA and like Pat said, was a triathlete. The silver lining is that per her partner, Natalie seems to be in good shape neurologically and just had surgery yesterday to plate together a bunch of broken bones, fingers crossed for her recovery.

Surprised somewhat to see Roglich in big/big while climbing to the finish. Would have thought that a better chainline (little/mid) would be more efficient.
I'm sure he had a reason.
