Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I used another rider as a rabbit for a couple miles on today's ride, eventually passing him, then him re-passing me when I sat up. 2 miles farther down the road, he turned around, and when we passed, I gave a nod, he gave a small wave. That was the total extent to which we acknowledged each other, because we're cool.

I'm over 4900 Real World miles for 2022 now, and unlikely to manage the remaining 90 - rain just moved in and it's supposed to hang around through first week of January. Last year, the most miles I'd ever done at that point, I didn't even hit 4000 IRL miles. So, not reaching 5000 IRL miles is only slightly disappointing. It wasn't a goal. Just something that I noticed that looked doable last week before the rains arrived.

It's a good way to deflect media attention from this. Read up on that one. Bizarre.

Read up on it. The team and coaches then take off on a bus with the police in hot pursuit. One of the coaches hiding out in a hotel with the weapon. An on and on.

Was able to pick up the mavic kyserium (however you spell it) elite wheels for a buck 20 yesterday.

Question do they brake pads that will work on both carbon and aluminum?

Please only use ones designed for aluminum.

The crabon ones are softer and won't work well. And NEVER EVER take ones that have been on aluminum and use on carbon, they pick up small bits of metal and will RUIN the crabon rims in no time.

Yep. The Blackburn I carry with the Battaglin and the Ritchey won't fit (too small) and the HPX3 I carry with my vintage bikes is too small. The HPX4 is just right. I just wish a frame pump would fit the Bianchi and the Canyon - especially since I run 28mm tires on the latter!

The rib roast The Older Boy bought us for Christmas was - indeed IS excellent. There's about 1-2cm of "Well Done" around the outside and the rest is pink the whole way through. We made a big pot of potatoes, with butter and chives, which curiously are all nearly falling apart, except for the occasional bit. The Older Boy, at Christmas dinner said, "Oh, no! A fragment of underdone potato! Now Jacob Marley's ghost will be haunting me!"

TOB and I had set out on Christmas Eve Eve to find Christmassy treats and last minute stuff, so we ended up with 3 desserts - a Christstollen, a plum pudding, and a pecan pie. It's a mistake to let the two of us go buy Christmassy treats together. We damn near also bought a panettone. So, between leftover rib roast, leftover potatoes, leftover stuffing (did I mention that I made stuffing, even though no bird for dinner?), and leftover Christmas desserts, I'm gonna have to ride several centuries just to claw my way back down to 200 lbs, let alone the 190 I was dreaming of.

And it's raining. A lot.
