Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. 2015 Specialized AWOL with 26" Velocity Dually rims and Compass/Rene Rat Trap Pass tires 26 x 2.3 - Deore triple crank 42-32-26 - 11-36 cassette

The steel fenders are OEM for 700c wheels - the extra clearance might be handy for debris picked-up on gravel roads.

What's up with all these bars higher than the saddle setups? Have you guys ever tried riding with the bars lower? It looks so uncomfortable to me.

nothing wrong with a upright bike, but a upright bike with racing saddle would feel like a torture device, i guess some ppl have ass of steel

On the contrary, the saddle on the Awol is a Fabric Scoop - a very comfortable saddle in general.

They come in three profiles - Flat, Shallow and Radius. That looks like the curved "Radius" profile which is specifically designed for an upright riding position.

https://fabric.cc/findyourfit/

I have zero problems with my four Fabric Scoop saddles including an Ultimate Shallow Team Edition on my RLT 9 RDO. I'm sure @jlaw will say the same about his. It looks like he has actually chosen very wisely.

your pelvis rotation when you are sitting at 60 degree vs 40 degree are different, the more forward rotation, the narrower it gets, a racing saddle is designed for forward pelvic rotation.

Thats fine but the Fabric website has actual information on their products and why they are designed the way they are.

Calling them a “Racing saddle” is an oversimplification.

Wha’s on the bike is designed for an upright ride.

Thanks, but I think that saddle came with the bike and I have no idea what it is. The spec. for the bike shows a 'Body Geometry Phenom' and I can't quite see the markings on the saddle. It's ok for 30 miles or so, but I would like to try something else.

I have been looking at the Fabric saddles at my LBS - which would you recommend?

Ooo I couldn’t get on with the Phenom. Now the Fabric Scoop? Money.

My LBS has a couple Fabric saddles that have been gathering dust - 'on sale' for $49 - not sure which models.

Get the Radius. $49 is hard to beat and you could get most of that back if you needed to sell it.

From this $10 Craigslist bike.....

To this stripped frame

To this ready to ride and built up with parts I had laying around. Gonna upgrade the brakes soon too. They are the stock plastic covered Dia-Compes.

Yours looks good with drop bars, that's a fun ride I bet.

It is fun. I've turned the bars up a bit for a more upright position. I thought the 42x17 gearing might be a little to low but with the 35c tires it feels right. My commute is just under 8 miles round trip so it will probably be used for that also untill I get my Jack Brown Mile Munchers in the mail for my blue bike in the background.

The Formula track Hubs have a 42mm chainline. I don't know what the chainline for the RaceFace Cadence crank is but the ring is in the outer position and it might be off by a couple mm but it's quite with the 1/8 inch KMC 710 Kool chain.
