Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I like Rapha casual clothing- have a couple of t-shirts and hoodies.

The half-bike was not from our group. Most likely a local.

It's a rotten job, but someone's got to do it.

Don't they?

I'm a little miffed that nobody liked the joke I made last week about how he and I should form a support group for those with a pathological need to get the last word, but that the first meeting would never end.

So I went out and bought a hard case. Every time I used it they tried to charge me an extra $250.00 for oversized luggage. Even though thier own website said bike cases were exempt. It later got destroyed on a flight.

I went to the club today and intended to do the 66 mile ride but some of my regular riding partners didn't show so I would have been chasing in the hills (more than usual). I opted for the 52 mile, less climby ride and that was the right choice. 17 riders including 4 women. A new guy came and he looked fit and young but he vanished about 10 or 12 miles in. I hope he went with a couple guys who decided to cut the route short.

It's great not being the slowest rider and when the slower riders are women the fast people are more likely to wait, although the faster people promised to wait early on.
We had a longish climb with 15% sections and 2 of the women walked part of it. Then a shorter climb with 18% which was hard after the other thing and they hoofed it again. Of course, the mountain goat woman flew up those hills and another newer chica stayed ahead of me.

I give them credit, though, since they both hate climbing and they stuck with the route and neither complained. One of the 2 has had multiple physical problems her whole life and is not allowed to raise her heart over about 155.Plus, she's not little. I'm sometimes very impressed by people who persevere through setbacks that would have me whining like a little beyotch. She's awesome.
