Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

First one up this morning. Rango's often restless first thing in the AM. Wants to go sleep in his bed in the Living Room, but doesn't want to be alone. What a big baby! I also had to sit on the floor so he could bury his head into my shoulder while I stroked the xylophone that is his rib cage. I think he'd have stayed there all day, if he weren't hungry.

Yesterday, we replaced our 30 year old outdoor lights with pretty much identical lights. We have daisy-chained 4 strings off one socket since Time Immemorial, but the last two years the lights failed. Last year it took out the extension cord. This year the plug on the first string got all...melty. So we ran a heavy duty extension cord with 3 sockets to where the second and 3rd strings meet, and ran two strings in one direction and two in the other. All new lights, but as I said, just the same as the ones we had. Now we have about 96 still-working C9 incandescent bulbs to spare.

The Older Boy, the one who works in the Meat Department, bought us a big rib roast for Christmas. But the whole fam still wants stuffing. So, we're gonna have a big beef roast, and stuffing, because why not?

Surgery is this Wednesday. Surgeon originally wanted to do the full blown quad first but decided he should do both the other one at the same time because he's afraid that it's not going to tear because it's barely attached. So, both legs at once, overnight stay in the hospital, then 6-8 months of therapy.

Wow that's rough. I hope he has some of that toughness you and the Mrs. have. Best of luck for him to handle it well.

Yikes - glad he’s having the surgery and they’re able to do both at the same time. Here’s hoping for a good and complete rehab in as short a time as possible.

******g A. In Dulles, that went fine, but flight to Albany is delayed. By several hours. Now allegedly leaving at 3:45 or so, Atomic Dad said not to try the drive, as it would take an hour to even get to the rental spot and there are no cars anyway. Sitting in the Turkish Air lounge thanks to getting Priority Pass through my Marriott card.

All apologies to Bam, but I hate flying so much.

In a serious note, commuting by plane has prolly taken years off my life. I so cannot wait to drive to work, even if it is 3 hours.

Good luck.

That sounds like a weird, mixed-metaphor euphemism for pregnancy.

I’m not looking forward to flying tomorrow, or back home later in the week. All made more fun with a toddler that’s never flown before. Bam - how do I get him a cockpit tour (or whatever it’s called)?

Ask the number 1 flight attendant right when you enter the aircraft. If everything is normal (no major issues going on) you should be allowed up. I’ve never had a captain say no, I never said no when I was a captain.

Air travel lost its allure when cheap flights made it accessible to the masses.

I think a dress code should be required to enter the airport, no matter the air carrier. I could say a whole lot more on this issue.

Something like this?

Men - dressy casual, showered within 18 hours, sub-200 lbs,

Women - model chic clothing, sub-140 lbs (unless pregnant), hot, showered within 18 hours, hot, no tats, hot. Did I say “hot”?

Everyone, including kids, - no smoking or vaping, properly educated, know how to count to 2 (so they can count their carry on bags), keep your shoes on, act like you know what human decency is, be nice to flight attendants. Minimum six-figure household (two partners only) income.

All the rest can take the bus.

I'd like it if people in airports (and everywhere) would know not to use speakerphone or speakers in public.

Interesting to me is the people in the lounges are much better-behaved than those not. And I'm barely functional in public.

Never understood the people that hold their phone about a foot from their mouths and talked loudly.

No, the plane that will take us from IAD to ALB is now en route from STL. We are not in STL. The in-laws are like flight-planning masterminds.

Good to know.

I was afraid you booked AUS - DFW - STL - IAD - ALB or something like that with the Datlas Travel Agency to save $5.00. 😜
