Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I’m congested again, and it’s starting to feel like I’m sick again.

That means in the last two months, I was I only unsick for seven days.

I still haven't had a sniffle since 2019. Of course I injured my disc at L4-L5 requiring surgery, developed A FIB, have a mysterious abdominal condition and my right knee has been aching for over a month. I guess i would trade all that for a cold.

You are a pilot in and out of airports and have germ breeding kids. That's probably why you are sick so much.

I agree with you to a point. Been in out of airports for the last 10 years and never have I ever been this sick.

Yea I have had colds in the past, they usually only
last a week or less. Not 3-4 weeks.

I rarely get sick. Very rarely. It's just the **** that's been going around recently. When I took my daughter to the doctor - she'd had a fever for a few days - the doctor said that lots and lots of families were going through the same thing.

I've been fine, more or less, for a few weeks, but it was a long rollercoaster of feeling crappy, thinking that I was getting over it, and then another dive in to feeling miserable. Now, I'm just feeling the effects of the lost fitness from that time off.

I never got those from there.

I'm fond of Towneplace Suites now. But really, anywhere that leaves the coffee out in the lobby 24/7. Some of us need it. And the crappy machine in the room doesn't cut it.

The movies were surprisingly busy tonight. Fittingly, we saw the new Spielberg movie “The Fabelmans.” It was good.

I don't know that I'll see it in the theater, but will likely watch it soon after it's available to stream. I like Paul Dano (and that Spielberg guy).

I think I only know him from There Will Be Blood. Great in that, of course.

Good news: the office is closed today and another person is covering call, so I can ride.

Bad news: the roads still have lots of icy patches, so my ride will be in the basement.

Was supposed to be 25 degrees this morning. It is not. When I started getting dressed it was 14, I have ridden in 14 before, but I’m a little hesitant to try out new wheels in the dark that cold where no one can come save me if I get a flat. The front wheel I noticed the rim tape didn’t cover spoke hole completely. I kind of wish I put some electrical tape over it or something, now I am worried it will result in a flat. It wasn’t a lot of hole showing, but I saw it.I

I am a little upset with myself for not putting the bike on the trainer after I mounted the wheels, obviously I really want to ride it but I don’t think the weather will cooperate.

I am going to beg Mrs Bam to see if she will let me ride after lunch. Temperatures will be almost tropical by then.

As far as the trainer goes, I mounted a tire on the old front wheel and I will just use that wheel when I put it on the trainer.

Swiss Army Man - he and (the corpse of) Daniel Radcliffe are great. Little Miss Sunshine? The most recent Batman. Those are the most prominent, off the top of my head, but he's good in whatever he pops up in.

In other news, I woke up at home, am not seeing my family, and still don’t have my luggage back. I don’t understand how the back-side conveyor belts, all of them, froze at Logan airport. It’s Boston - this is not some freak winter spell. Our bags never went on the plane, and they were able to find my child’s car seat, but they couldn’t find my bags? The earliest we could’ve gotten out was Wednesday which is when our return flight is.

The entire day was an unmitigated disaster and I’m still livid. I’m going to jump in the pool in a little bit and bang out laps. Maybe Zwift a little later. Definitely getting some good Porters and Stouts and a massive steak.
