Never driven one, the closest I came was +/- 1980 when several friends all drove Mitsubishi-built Dodge Colts with "Twin-Stick" 4x2 setups. Trying to stay in the rev range on twisty mountain roads, jamming a knee against the steering wheel to hold it so one could move both shift levers at once....

2 speed axles are quite common on medium duty trucks. I've driven many 5x2 single axle dumps and flatbeds
