Honest question about apparel....
Which is actually more pretentious: lycra shorts/bibs or MTB-specific flannel shirts and MTB-specific shorts designed to look like cargo shorts? Just sayin, you can spend a lot of $$ to look like you're not trying...

I have found that Lycra is far more sensible and comfortable for fast XC-style rides through the stifling, airless woods on hot, humid days. I see the enduro bros sweating like pigs in baggies on my local (completely non-technical) trails and I don't get it. All bets are off on cooler days or for gravity-based riding.

I'm going to write something crazy, especially for Bike Forums: there's no reason to pit different types of riding behavior or riding that doesn't harm anybody against one another.

Preach it brother, preach it. I could care less what people think. If I am comfortable, it is what I will wear.

My best road cycling L/S jersey is a POC enduro MTB jersey.
The few times I MTB at Mammoth, I just wear my old beat road gear because I know I am crashing and ripping it anyway.
For me, it is about function over pretense.

So would a hiker wearing the correct gear for a hike in the mountains also be pretentious in your view?

I find a 3 piece suit to be more pretentious than your 2 choices.

if a crossdresser undoes the crossdressing, are they pretentious, normal, or nude?

I occasionally see MTB’ers and from what I have seen just about anything goes clothing wise.
I smell the weed way before I notice the clothes they’re wearing though.
Too baked to turn off their Strava and keep taking all the KOM’s driving home, lol.

BTW, will be 71yo in 4 months from today and I just purchased a used DAY6 Journey >>>
https://day6bikes.com/journey/ ONLY with 7 speed and rim brakes like white one pictured
Woke up on Monday, got out of bed, put lights on the bike and went for a ride in my PJ's. At 5:35AM I saw a FIREBALL and reported the sighting when I got back home. It was reported being seen by 41 other people with 2 good videos and the "SIGHTING" was verified. >>>

note : 2nd figure up from bottom is me John V
The bike is now named FIREBALL
