found it in my basement, it was leftover from a trade show, one of those give-away bags that never get used in everyday life. I cut off a corner and re-sewed it to fit my frame. added four straps to tie it to the top tube and one for the seat tube. you can see some safety pins where i havent finished sewing yet.

Got some extreme weather this week - more than 100 cm (40 inches) of snow over a 3-day period. The accumulation was so much that I was unable to ride. Nothing short of a Pugsley would have done for the conditions we experienced, and even that would have been a stretch. I was able to commute to work today; the main arteries were mostly clear, but side roads made for some hairy riding. Here are some pics illustrating the dumping we got:

There were days this past week that I wish I had your setup... with a plow attached to the front! It would have done the job a lot more quickly than my snowblower did.

We got a little more snow over the past few days and it continues to come down but we have only got a few inches of it... we don't often get the big dumps of snow people get in the east.

Mounted a Continental Cyclocross Race 700x35 on the rear of my fixed gear tonight. It is sweet and looks neat. After riding with a friend with my completely slick 25mm on the rear, I picked this up big difference....now to lower the gearing and get pics.....this thingis a beast, no longer gets stuck haha

Love MEC stuff! I just wish we had a store closer to us; I've ordered a bunch of their stuff online, but I like to be able to try on clothes before purchasing them. I look forward to trips with my wife to IKEA in Burlington since MEC is right down the road. I have yet to visit the Toronto store.

UL easy on Studs, will it work?
Will it work?
Studs? by mmeiser2, on Flickr
You should know I already have 150 miles testing out a zip tie on my rear wheel. The only issue was a little sidewall chaffing, but a bit of duct tape seems to have resolved that.
The other option I had initially passed over was braided rope, but I've been reading about some old crampon techniques, and if the rope is porus enough it becomes permiated with snow and ice and actually ends up giving very good traction.

Eleanor -
My bike Eleanor all "tarted up" in reflective tape. Right now my only bike but will be relegated to winter-loaner status once I upgrade!
I've also since added some homebrew studded tires, which are crazy grippy in the testing I've done around my place (near Barrie, Ontario). Still need to add fenders though...
Cheers!

Totally not jealous. Seriously, I'm not jealous at all. Nope, not one shred of jealousy over here, none at all (Okay, maybe I'm a little bit jealous).
At least I can soothe my not-jealousy with my new Alfine 8 drivetrain.
Obligatory chainline shot:
Non-obligatory cockpit shot (this is what Lil' GriddleCakes sees when riding):
Two winter bikes for the price on one, both mine and the Lady's hanging out on the rack:
And my rack stays and fender brackets just arrived in the mail! Off to finish the build...

Don't look like a beater to me, Richard, that Trek looks like it's in fine shape. That blue bike on my rack is a Trek 3700, it was the first new bike that I purchased as an adult. I rode the heck out of that bike, then gave it to the Lady G'Cakes when I upgraded to a disc-compatible frame. It's been her daily commuter and trail bike ever since, and if I had to guess I'd say that it has at least 30k miles on it. And it's still rolling smooth.

I've had mine since August, and it's been rock solid except that my shifter cable has been insta-freezing as soon as I take it outside ever since the temperature has dropped below -10C/14F.
I have one of these chain guards on mine:
