Is carbon 105 is as good as Ultegra?

Let me stoke the fire cause I am curious. Exactly what is the difference between the 105 and the Ultegra that makes the Ultegra supposedly better than the 105?

Depends on your ride style. If your style is to sprint to the finish line of a charity ride and can't afford a mis shift, then Ultegra is worth every penny when it comes to impressing your friends. Not to mention, it weighs about one less Benny and Jerry's, so it accelerates faster too.

I must be out of the loop: what's "carbon 105"? As far as I know, there's just 105 (in either silver or black coloring) and Ultegra (in silver or grey coloring)... Some people can tell the difference between the two without a gram scale and some people can't. Honestly, in a blind test I'm not sure that I could tell the difference.

As far as i can tell...
Ultegra: lighter weight, stiffer materials, more "substance" to it, slightly better shifting performance (quicker, more sure engagement).
105: more plastics, less stiff, less beefier "substance", leading to the less "crisp" shifting.

I'm not familiar with the carbon 105, either. I've got Ultegra on my Madone but test rode several with 105. It's all good stuff. What differences there are are fairly negligible to the average rider. So, to answer your question, Yes. Maybe.
