I have been thinking about what will someday be considered the classy looking bicycles of our time and, after viewing countless pictures online, I have to say the Dahon folders can really pull off classy sport just as well as Brompton's pull of classy sophisticated. I mean Dahon's can be really beautiful:
And both the Brompton and Dahon can even complement each other well.
I can see having both... the Dahon being more of the sporty workhorse and "sacrificial" tough duty bike (trailer pulling, bicycle camping, anywhere you might bring your bike overnight and/or don't want to risk your precious Brompton), while preserving the Brompton for both more formal and casual lite duty (a double bicycle date, the daily ride to the office, the coffee house, where ever you have to look your best).
And with the all black on the Dahon pictured above and a Brooks saddle slapped on the Brompton, you really get that hint of antique and classic bicycle flashback from them. Very dignified bicycles.

This one is a personal favorite, a custom all titanium BMX built by Davidson Bicycles in seatle WA for or by one of their employees, Im not quite sure. It has disc brakes, multispeed (Saint shifter/derailleur), and S&S couplers for travel packing. It has the post mounts for a front brake but it isn't installed. the guy had an article somewhere about riding it in I think taiwan but I am not sure. I would love one of these, alas it is a one of a kind...until I copy it!

Cool. What will the major differences of the Clinch compared to the Dash (midtown series) bikes? Better foldability? Just a different look?

I'm trying to find a Dahon Dash, or I'll get the Dahon clinch. I'm wanting a smaller fold than my Xootr Swift. Great bike, just not portable enough for me needs. My trip to Canada (bikeless) proved that last week!

Well the dash will not fold any smaller than the swift so if you want to fly with it I don't think it is the one. The clinch does look very nice but I do think it is still not the tiniest fold.

I've seen how it folds, and it's definitely smaller than my Xootr. Besides, I plan on heading to Manhattan to see a Dahon Dash (if nycewheels has one in stock). I'm going to check it out first. And I didn't fly, I drive. More fun that way,...

Nycewheels never carried the dash p18, I originally went there looking for one and peter told me they only had the one in their video for a few days as a review loaner and never stocked them because "we would have had to buy a shipping container full of them" for whatever reason. I checked back when they released the disc brake P18 pictured above and they reaffirmed that they had no intention of ever getting it and tried to tell me it was a non-production prototype. I am not actually their biggest fan. I ended up getting my silvertip from amazon because it was the only source I could find. The only difference between the dash p18 and the silvertip is the paint job and the seat post diameter.

Oh ok cool, I just mean't it isn't a small fold, I've never seen a swift folded in person just recently found out it didn't fold like a montague. For car travel the dash is fine.

And I'm contemplating keeping the Xootr right now,... I'm selling it but not willing to lose all the $$$ I put into it.

nycewheels isn't a "bike shop", it's a showroom. what they are good at is using social media to market themselves and their products. that's fine. the "service" they offer, is selling you a bike and accessories. to their credit, if, for some ungodly reason you happen to be on the upper eastside, you can stop in there and buy a replacement mudflap for your brompton or similar.
bfold on 12th street is the real deal, however. when i was shopping for a folding bike they really indulged me and let me ride every damn bike they had. haha. after i decided on the brompton, i was invited back the following saturday for a group tutorial on how to properly fold and care for the bike. i was even chastised for sitting on the saddle when the bike was folded: "don't ever do that!" they also do organized foodie group rides... they'll also fix your bike. it's never happened to me, mind you, but i've heard that if you've done something stupid to damage your bike, they'll yell at you and charge you a $20 "dumbass surcharge". i like bfold.

a well documented upgrade blog
2003 dahon boardwalk.
a great example of how to use an inexpensive secondhand (but good quality 4130 cromo steel) frame and make into something great and well worth the effort. pictured with 4 different wheelsets.
an excellent piece of work. the carbon tube sleeve stem is clever and well described. take note!

My Xootr Swift has a spot to add a derailer. It's not built in,... That bike has it attached to the frame(?), so if it gets hit and damaged the frame itself is damaged. Not a great idea.
