First CF Bike. Need cages + Bar tape input because I'm terrible at making decisions

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

OP, that is a really great looking bike. I love the colors on it. I personally like the black bar tape that it came with it but if I were going to change it, I would look at a blue tape that matches the forks. Go to Nashbar, Performance or a similar site and you can find many different variations of bar tape. I like Fizik but there are plenty of other good ones around.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks, really appreciate it!

I think I've almost settled on the Tacx Deva, especially since it looks like the blue one matches the color on my bike, but will check out some of the other ones just posted since last night.

I had the same thought after looking at Arundel's choices. Just didn't seem to fit.

Link?

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of the look of it - it supposed to be some sort of vibration dampening doo-dad shape. But it's also all carbon. I'll see how it feels after riding it a while.

So, I ordered two of the Tacx Deva in the Blue they had - and I was right, it matches the Specialized blue perfectly. I like the look, too. They are low profile, and on today's shakedown ride they held both my regular Podium and the tall one without incident. Hopefully they hold up over time.

Check it out:

I have not decided on a bar tape color, yet.

Thanks for the input and ideas everyone. I wouldn't have found the Tacx ones otherwise!

I vote for Fizik superlight in metallic blue. It would look great!

Sounds thin. I usually go for the more plush cork tape.

I'm a big fan of my lizard skin, it's a bit pricey but worth it IMO. But first I would get rid of that hideous seat post.

Take a look at Serfas stitched bar tap in the blue/black combo.. might work well with your colors.

The blue cages in the photo look OK, but are sort of boundary-pushing; I would have gone with black.
As for the bar tape, if you want something different, but colored, consider something completely different - like gold, or maybe olive green. Since it's presumably softer and feels different from your frame and components, there's reason it should look different, too. But again, I'd stick with black. Like the tires and saddle, the contrast makes the frame look good - too much matching just would just weaken it.

If you like plush tape, check out the Specialized Roubaix S-Wrap. I comes in several colors.

how so? Its actually perfect symmetry. Plus they small so it's a little understated. Black wouldn't match or contrast well it would just be there, sticking out.

Boundary pushing in that if the choice of blue had been just a little bit off, the symmetry would have collapsed. The balance is nice like you say, but you're on the edge.
Black wouldn't have "stuck out" on the cages any more than it does on the branding, tires, saddle, etc. They would have sort of blended in or been more or less ignorable with those things.

Fizik makes a thicker tape that is really comfortable. I put white on my roubaix but it comes in a lot of colours and stays clean and is easy to wipe off if you get it dirty.
