Shifter cable housings rubbing against brake housing causing issues
I am having an issue trying to install shifter housing cables onto my old Look KG281. I just bought a Shimano road Tiagra 4700 groupset. I also have another bike with Shimano DA components (7700).
The reason I mention that is I noticed on the old DA group the shifter cables exit position is different than the Tiagra. That is, the 7700 has the cables looping out from the side of the shifter while the 4700 has the cables coming out the back. I assume this was to give it a cleaner look but it is causing an issue for me.
The 4700 shifter cable housing loops are much shorter and stiffer. The placement of the front brake cable housing is all but impossible to get right, that is, to keep from rubbing/interfering with the two shifter cables regardless of the orientation.
I kept cutting the shifter housing shorter hoping it would draw the housing in towards the head tube so the brake housing would clear and not rub (and snap) as it passes over the shifter housing and although it did move a little it seems if I cut it any shorter it will pop out of the housing piece (barrel adjuster) on the frame.
I'm not thrilled with the the new shifter set up. Now there are 2 cables taped to the bars which makes it more uncomfortable when riding on the bar tops. I prefer the bigger loop version, aesthetically inferior or not.
I took some pics but since everything is black there no help.

A few thoughts. Have either the shift or the brake casing exit the bar tape before it's end/finish tape wrap. Try having the shift casing run to the other sides of the bike and cross back over on their way to the BB. (Unsure of the cable stop location of that bike so...) Andy

AS the distance between the cable's exit from the handlebar and it's entering a frame stop gets less the length of the casing becomes more and more important. Some of the current aero carbon bikes have only a few inches of this open casing length. Too short to my sensibilities. Andy

1. Unless I am seeing it wrong, it looks like the front brake cable housing is coming from the right shifter and the rear from the left. Should be the opposite, correct?

Just wanted to confirm that I figured out the cable housing issue and I've had the bike out several times with no issues.
I probably made it worse than it was but at least I'm on the road.
BTW, the Tiagra groupset works great - no tweaking the derailleurs, shifts perfectly.

As Andy mentioned, try crossing the cables at the headtube next time. I've always done this and, although in the UK, I run my cables the European and US way, with my front shifter running front brake/front derailleur and my right shifter running my rear brake/rear shifter.
