Dear Tommasini fans,
Can anyone tell me when Tommasini introduced the internal rear gear cable including the internal guide tube inside the frame. for the cable to go into . I had a 1988ish yellow/white Retinato finish super Prestige with internal cable routing but no internal guide tube and it was awkward to get the brake cable out of the exit hole . In 1995 I bought a late mode Prestige which had the internal guide tube and the common Silva reinforcements at exit and entry. Was there Tommasini frames made where the internal tube came out proud of the frame and had no silva reinforcements ?. If someone knew these answers maybe you could determine if the Tommasini you are looking at has the internal tube fitted without physically trying to thread a cable through.
thank you kind regards kermisking.

Tommasini internal cable routing
Thank you all for the kind replies regarding Tommasini internal rear cable routing . I am sure if I contact Tommasini they will tell me when the internal sleeve was introduced . One thing about contacting Barbara and meaning no offence is that way back in 1990 , Irio was more hands on with control of production and Barbara was just coming into it so memories can be vague and perhaps these changes were not documented . The internal sleeve makes cable routing a breeze and in my opinion is a lot more practical and saves water getting inside the top tube . So if I am looking at buying a Tommasini I always ask about the internal cable routing ,
kind regards kermisking.

Was wondering if anyone would care to chime in on the authenticity, model, and dating of this bike for sale on Craigslist. My attention was focused on decals, seat stays, fork crown appearance, and bottom bracket shell. Also with the decal treatment I was curious about the possibility of it being a repaint, although this looks like it could be a Tommasini color. I have some interest in this as I have been looking for a Racing (Strada), Prestige or Super Prestige for a long time, but haven't yet found an acceptable bike or frame in my size, which is 52 or 53.. If anyone is selling, in that size, I would be very interested. No concern with the components on this, just interested in the frame and fork. Thank you in advance for any thoughts and information. My first thoughts were a re-stickered early 80’s model, but I’m not so sure on looking closer, I see under BB cable routing and seat tube bottle cage, so would likely be later than 82 or so. Plain seat stay caps as far as I can tell. I would take at pass on that one, probably even at half that price.

Also that craigslust ad is listed in Los Angeles but the GPS map shows Tulsa Oklahoma.
I would pass on it even though some seller post in multiple states.

I just looked again and it is a 55, sorry about that! And a pretty good price, that would probably come down a little as well, been up for sale for quite awhile. Here is the link: https://kansascity.craigslist.org/bi...301979767.html

Yes I have seen that for quite a while. I have a Craigslist algorithm that shows me anything that turns up. These are really getting hard to come by. What I would love is a Racing or Strada model but I will settle for a Prestige or Super Prestige. I want standard tubing.
Things get more complicated as we get to the very late 80s and 90s, when other Columbus tubing was available. There was a very brief period where lower cost bikes got a 'Racing' decal on the top tube, and these used a variety of tubing types. But generally if you're looking at a late 70s/early 80s Tommasini with 'Racing' on the chain stay and no top tube decal, it's very likely SL. I believe the Tommasini shop referred to these bikes as Prestige models retrospectively. 1980s Prestige is almost always SL, and Super Prestige almost always SLX.
The Los Angeles/Tulsa craigslist bike you highlighted above is I think an example of one of the late 80s Tommasini bikes that were made to be sold at a more attractive price point. I've seen those decals on Tommasinis from the very late 80s to around 1990 or so, and I think those decals were not used on Prestige/Super Prestige bikes. The tiny frame pump nipple on the head tube only started around '85/86, and the front lugs, fork, and BB cutout are the real deal. The fork was the standard fork before the AIR fork came into use, and the scalloped seat stay caps and lack of FD tab all probably go along with a slightly 'lesser' tubing like Tretubi or Cromor (or even non-Columbus tubing). I suspect the bike in question also lacks full chrome under the paint, looking at some of the paint chips, which is typical of these "cheaper" Tommasinis (it should be noted that these bikes were made in the same way, and are still high quality hand-made Italian bikes). As other's noted that bike is overpriced, even if it were in better condition and had much nicer components. Good luck in your search.

Beautiful! I love the way you have it set up, with the subtle yellow cues on the saddle and handlebar. And those chromed lugs... You wouldn't happen to have a nice shot of the bottom bracket, would you?

I've seen Tommasinis as Thomas, but I've never seen one badged Tomas.
What is going on with those bars though?

Hi Tommasini fans, would you happen to know a few things about this bike? Perhaps a fair valuation?
The seller says it's Columbus Genius steel with Dura Ace, size 56 and that's about it.
I am new and not familiar with the forum's etiquette so please forgive me if I'm doing it wrong.
Thanks

I am positive Irio would combine the genius tubing and the geometry for a fantastic ride. I have never seen one in the flesh but to me the absence of lugs is jarring, yet the overall bike is as expected beautiful. For an appraisal post over on
