Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

he is extremely lucky he was already on final approach and was configured for landing. If was at cruise or in the air much longer I think the story would be much different.

For years we had no gas caddy at the job, the manager threw it away along with some other equipment to try and make the shop look cleaner. Anyway all we had for handling gas or diesel was an old drum and a funnel and a coolant bottle cut to use as a scoop plus whatever hoses we used to siphon the tanks.I ended up being the only one who removed fuel tanks for years. Super dangerous and I had lots of headaches from breathing fumes at close range.

Couple managers later I got a new gas caddy complete with it's own pump and hose. Best thing he could have done for me. I guess I could have bought my own.

Ugh. Mrs. GeneJockey's 20 year old Sienna is at a crossroads. It's failed smog and apparently the catalytic converter(s) may be toast. I looked it up, and the units themselves are not that expensive, but with a transverse mounted V6 in a FWD minivan, I imagine you have to pull the engine/transaxle to get to them, so we're talking a repair that exceeds the monetary value of the car. However, she's very attached to this car - after all she's been driving it 20 years!

I wouldn't think so, at least not on anything I've ever worked on. Call a muffler shop that installs legal converters and get a price. California has strict laws regarding aftermarket cats and used ones are not allowed. It might only need 1. Why do you think it's the cat?

Because the Toyota dealer said all 3 (3?) need replacing, AND Toyota doesn't make them anymore, so he isn't trying to sell us on repairs we don't need. In fact, the guy suggested an aftermarket muffler place, and complimented the condition of the car otherwise - "flawless".

We'll probably go ahead and drop the money for the converters. Hopefully this isn't the start of everything else failing.

Why do they need replacing? Check engine light on? Tailpipe test? If there are 3 then the third one is not monitored by the computer.
What year model? Here in SoCal cars 2000 and newer don't go on the dyno.
